Characterization of enhanced Dα high-confinement modes in Alcator C-Mod
Martin Greenwald,R.L. Boivin,P.T. Bonoli,R. Budny,C.L. Fiore,J.A. Goetz,Robert Granetz,Amanda Hubbard,Ian H. Hutchinson,James Irby,Brian LaBombard,Yijun Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,Earl Marmar,A. Mazurenko,D. A. Mossessian,T. Sunn Pedersen,C. S. Pitcher,Miklos Porkolab,John Rice,William L. Rowan,J.A. Snipes,G. Schilling,Yuichi Takase,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,J. L. Weaver,B. Welch,S.J. Wukitch +28 more
TL;DR: In this article, the edge gradients in EDA seem to be relaxed by a continuous process rather than an intermittent one as is the case for standard ELMy discharges and thus do not present the first wall with large periodic heat loads.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transport-driven scrape-off layer flows and the x-point dependence of the L-H power threshold in Alcator C-Mod
Brian LaBombard,John Rice,Amanda Hubbard,Jerry Hughes,Martin Greenwald,Robert Granetz,J. Irby,Yu-Ming Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,Earl Marmar,Kenneth D. Marr,D. A. Mossessian,Ronald R. Parker,William L. Rowan,N. Smick,J.A. Snipes,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,S.J. Wukitch +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that a factor of ∼2 higher power thresholds for low-to high-confinement mode transitions with unfavorable x-point topologies in Alcator C-Mod are linked to flow boundary conditions imposed by the scrape-off layer (SOL).
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of Pd-like resonance lines through Pt 32+ and Zn-like resonance lines of Er 38+ and Hf 42+
TL;DR: In this paper, the 4d10−4d94f transition array of the Pd i isoelectronic sequence was identified by comparison with plots of observed-minus-calculated transition energies.
Journal ArticleDOI
High confinement dissipative divertor operation on Alcator C-Mod
J.A. Goetz,Brian LaBombard,Bruce Lipschultz,C. S. Pitcher,J.L. Terry,C. Boswell,S. Gangadhara,D. A. Pappas,J. L. Weaver,J. L. Weaver,B. Welch,B. Welch,R.L. Boivin,P.T. Bonoli,C.L. Fiore,Robert Granetz,Martin Greenwald,Amanda Hubbard,Ian H. Hutchinson,James Irby,Earl Marmar,D. A. Mossessian,M. Porkolab,John Rice,William L. Rowan,G. Schilling,G. Schilling,J.A. Snipes,Yuichi Takase,Yuichi Takase,Scot A. Wolfe,S.J. Wukitch +31 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high-confinement mode (H-mode) plasma with a dissipative divertor and a low core Zeff was used to increase radiative losses in both the core/edge and divertor plasmas in almost equal amounts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Confinement and transport research in alcator c-mod
Martin Greenwald,Nils T. Basse,P.T. Bonoli,R. V. Bravenec,E.M. Edlund,Darin Ernst,C.L. Fiore,Robert Granetz,Amanda Hubbard,Jerry Hughes,Ian H. Hutchinson,J. H. Irby,Brian LaBombard,L. Lin,Yu-Ming Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,E. S. Marmar,D. Mikkelsen,D. A. Mossessian,P. E. Phillips,Miklos Porkolab,J.E. Rice,William L. Rowan,S. D. Scott,J.A. Snipes,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,S.J. Wukitch,K. Zhurovich +28 more
TL;DR: In this article, global and local transport experiments in ohmic, L-mode and H-mode regimes on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak were summarized, and earlier results derived for energy confinement scaling in...
