Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical spectrum of X-linked hyper-IgM syndrome

TL;DR: Although lymphocyte counts and in vitro proliferation to mitogens were normal, a defective in vitro proliferative response to antigens was observed in some patients, and additional defects of cell-mediated immunity may be presumed on the basis of current knowledge of CD40-ligand function.
Journal Article

Cholangiopathy and tumors of the pancreas, liver, and biliary tree in boys with X-linked immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM.

TL;DR: It is proposed that the CD40 ligand mutations that cause XHIM deprive the biliary epithelium of one line of defense against intracellular pathogens and that malignant transformation in the bile ducts follows chronic infection or inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of anti-VEGF agents for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

TL;DR: Off-label use of anti-VEGF agents was found to be beneficial in PDR, especially in cases with neovascular glaucoma, persistent vitreous haemorrhage, and before vitrectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) in Israeli-Bedouins: Genetic heterogeneity, novel mutations in the TRKA/NGF receptor gene, clinical findings, and results of nerve conduction studies

TL;DR: Using the linkage analysis approach, the disease was linked in 9 of 10 unrelated Israeli-Bedouin families with CIPA to the TrkA gene, which encodes the receptor for nerve growth factor, and two new mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain were identified in patients.
