A vaccine to prevent herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia in older adults.
Michael N. Oxman,Michael N. Oxman,Myron J. Levin,Gary R. Johnson,Kenneth E. Schmader,Sharon E. Straus,Lawrence D. Gelb,Robert D. Arbeit,Michael S. Simberkoff,Anne A. Gershon,Larry E. Davis,Adriana Weinberg,Kathy D. Boardman,Heather M. Williams,J. Hongyuan Zhang,Peter Peduzzi,C. E. Beisel,Vicki A. Morrison,John C. Guatelli,P. A. Brooks,C. A. Kauffman,Constance T. Pachucki,Kathleen M. Neuzil,Robert F. Betts,Peter F. Wright,Marie R. Griffin,P. Brunell,N. E. Soto,Adriana Marques,Susan Keay,R. P. Goodman,D. J. Cotton,John W. Gnann,J. Loutit,Mark Holodniy,Wendy A. Keitel,George E. Crawford,S. S. Yeh,Z. Lobo,John F. Toney,Richard N. Greenberg,Paul M. Keller,Ruth Harbecke,Anthony R. Hayward,Michael R. Irwin,Tassos C. Kyriakides,Christina Y. Chan,Ivan S. F. Chan,William Wang,Paula W. Annunziato,Jeffrey L. Silber +50 more
TL;DR: The zoster vaccine markedly reduced morbidity from herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia among older adults and significantly reduced the burden of illness due to herpesZoster.
Journal Article
Cholangiopathy and tumors of the pancreas, liver, and biliary tree in boys with X-linked immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM.
Anthony R. Hayward,Jacov Levy,Fabio Facchetti,Luigi D. Notarangelo,Hans D. Ochs,Amos Etzioni,Jean Yves Bonnefoy,Mary Cosyns,Adriana Weinberg +8 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the CD40 ligand mutations that cause XHIM deprive the biliary epithelium of one line of defense against intracellular pathogens and that malignant transformation in the bile ducts follows chronic infection or inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decline in Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV)–Specific Cell-Mediated Immunity with Increasing Age and Boosting with a High-Dose VZV Vaccine
Myron J. Levin,Jeffrey G. Smith,Robin M. Kaufhold,Debra Barber,Anthony R. Hayward,Christina Y. Chan,Ivan S. F. Chan,David J. J. Li,William Wang,Paul M. Keller,Alan Shaw,Jeffrey L. Silber,Katia Schlienger,Ira Chalikonda,S. J. R. Vessey,Michael J. Caulfield +15 more
TL;DR: A live attenuated VZV vaccine is safe and immunogenic in an elderly population, and the vaccine-induced immunity may be monitored by the IFN-gamma ELISPOT assay, which had greater sensitivity and a wider dynamic range.
Journal ArticleDOI
Varicella-Zoster Virus–Specific Immune Responses to Herpes Zoster in Elderly Participants in a Trial of a Clinically Effective Zoster Vaccine
Adriana Weinberg,Jane H. Zhang,Michael N. Oxman,Gary R. Johnson,Anthony R. Hayward,Michael J. Caulfield,Michael R. Irwin,James H. Clair,Jeffrey G. Smith,Harold A. Stanley,Rocio D. Marchese,Ruth Harbecke,Heather M. Williams,Ivan S. F. Chan,Robert D. Arbeit,Anne A. Gershon,Florian Schödel,Vicki A. Morrison,Carol A. Kauffman,Steve E. Straus,Kenneth E. Schmader,Larry E. Davis,Myron J. Levin +22 more
TL;DR: Higher VZV CMI at HZ onset was associated with reduced HZ severity and less postherpetic neuralgia, and higher antibody titers were associated with increased H zoster vaccine severity and occurrence of postherPetic Neuralgia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Degeneration of aortic valve allografts in young recipients.
TL;DR: The prevalence of early aortic valve allograft degeneration has prompted the consideration of nonviable allogsrafts or xenografts, pulmonary autografteds, or minimal immunosuppression as alternatives when left ventricular outflow tract reconstruction is necessary in children less than 3 years of age.
