Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of 1420 European patients with mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease 2019.
Jerome R. Lechien,Carlos M. Chiesa-Estomba,Sammy Place,Yves Van Laethem,Pierre Cabaraux,Quentin Mat,Kathy Huet,Jan Plzak,Mihaela Horoi,Stéphane Hans,Maria Rosaria Barillari,Giovanni Cammaroto,Nicolas Fakhry,Delphine Martiny,Tareck Ayad,Lionel Jouffe,Claire Hopkins,Sven Saussez,Sven Saussez +18 more
TL;DR: The clinical presentation of European patients with mild‐to‐moderate COVID‐19 infection is still unknown and further research is needed to determine the cause of death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Galectin-3 - an emerging prognostic indicator in advanced head and neck carcinoma.
Jan Plzak,Jan Betka,Karel Smetana,Martin Chovanec,Herbert Kaltner,Sabine André,Roman Kodet,Hans-Joachim Gabius +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that studies with an endogenous lectin as a marker are technically feasible and detection of accessible galectin-3-specific ligands is an independent prognostic marker in advanced head and neck squamous cell cancer with therapeutic potential.
Journal ArticleDOI
Upregulation of IL-6, IL-8 and CXCL-1 production in dermal fibroblasts by normal/malignant epithelial cells in vitro: Immunohistochemical and transcriptomic analyses.
Michal Kolář,Pavol Szabo,Pavol Szabo,Barbora Dvořánková,Barbora Dvořánková,Lukáš Lacina,Lukáš Lacina,Hans-Joachim Gabius,Hynek Strnad,Jana Šáchová,Čestmír Vlček,Jan Plzak,Martin Chovanec,Zdeněk Čada,Jan Betka,Zdeněk Fík,Jan Pačes,Hana Kovářová,Jan Motlik,Karla Jarkovska,Karel Smetana +20 more
TL;DR: Considering an analogy between wound healing and tumour progression, chemokine and cytokine transcription and expression in normal fibroblasts is studied by co‐culture and in situ.
Journal ArticleDOI
Smooth muscle actin-expressing stromal fibroblasts in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: increased expression of galectin-1 and induction of poor prognosis factors.
Jaroslav Valach,Zdeněk Fík,Hynek Strnad,Martin Chovanec,Jan Plzak,Zdeněk Čada,Pavol Szabo,Pavol Szabo,Jana Šáchová,Miluše Hroudová,Markéta Urbanová,Martin Šteffl,Martin Šteffl,Jan Pačes,Jiří Mazánek,Čestmír Vlček,Jan Betka,Herbert Kaltner,Sabine André,Hans-Joachim Gabius,Roman Kodet,Karel Smetana,Petr Gál,Michal Kolář +23 more
TL;DR: In squamous cell carcinomas of head and neck, upregulation of galectin‐1 presence was highly significantly correlated to presence of smooth muscle actin‐positive cancer‐associated fibroblasts in the tumor (p = 4 × 10−8), and microarray analyses to the transcription profiles of the corresponding tumors provided new insights into the significance of presence of myofibroblast in squamouscell carcinoma.
Journal Article
Epidermal growth factor receptor--its expression and copy numbers of EGFR gene in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.
TL;DR: Criteria for cetuximab treatment in patients with HNSCC may differ from those already used for patients with colorectal carcinomas and should take different patterns of the EGFR protein overexpression into consideration.
