Journal ArticleDOI
Wetland carbon storage controlled by millennial-scale variation in relative sea-level rise
Kerrylee Rogers,Jeffrey J. Kelleway,Neil Saintilan,J. Patrick Megonigal,Janine B. Adams,James R. Holmquist,Meng Lu,Meng Lu,Lisa Schile-Beers,Atun Zawadzki,Debashish Mazumder,Colin D. Woodroffe +11 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that coastal wetlands characteristic of tectonically stable coastlines have lower carbon storage owing to a lack of accommodation space and that carbon sequestration increases according to the vertical and lateral accommodation space created by RSLR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the conservation priority status of South African estuaries for use in management and water allocation
Jane Turpie,Janine B. Adams,Alison Joubert,T. D. Harrison,B. M. Colloty,R C Maree,Alan K. Whitfield,TH Wooldridge,Stephen J. Lamberth,Susan Taljaard,L van Niekerk +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for prioritising South African estuaries on the basis of conservation importance, and presents the results of a ranking based on the collation of existing data for all South African Estuaries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mangroves give cause for conservation optimism, for now

TL;DR: The results of conservation efforts for mangrove forests in recent years are discussed, with a focus on coastal mangroves in Southeast Asia.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multidisciplinary study of a small, temporarily open/closed South African estuary, with particular emphasis on the influence of mouth state on the ecology of the system
Alan K. Whitfield,Janine B. Adams,Guy C. Bate,K Bezuidenhout,Thomas G. Bornman,Paul D. Cowley,P. W. Froneman,Phumelele T. Gama,Nicola C. James,B Mackenzie,T. Riddin,GC Snow,Nadine A. Strydom,S Taljaard,AI Terörde,A.K. Theron,Jane Turpie,L van Niekerk,Paul D. Vorwerk,TH Wooldridge +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a multidisciplinary research program that included studies on the hydrodynamics, sediment dynamics, macronutrients, microalgae, macrophytes, zoobenthos, hyperbenthos and zooplankton, ichthyoplankton and birds of the temporarily open/closed East Kleinemonde Estuary was conducted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of River Flow on Estuarine Microalgal Biomass and Distribution
TL;DR: In this paper, a study was initiated on the structure and biomass of microalgae in the Gamtoos estuary (Eastern Cape Province, South Africa) in order to improve our capability to predict changes and determine the acceptability of reduced riverwater input.
