Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoring plastic ingestion by the northern fulmar Fulmarus glacialis in the North Sea

TL;DR: The abundance of plastics in stomachs of northern fulmars from the North Sea is used in the OSPAR Ecological Quality Objective (EcoQO) for marine litter and is now also used as an indicator for Good Environmental Status in the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
Journal ArticleDOI

Levels of brominated flame retardants in Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) eggs from the Faroe Islands.

TL;DR: Eggs from Northern Fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis) were sampled in the Faroe Islands and the content of the brominated flame retardants tri- to decabromodiphenyl ethers and 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) were determined in concentrations ranging from non-detectable to 7 ng g-1(l.w.).
Journal ArticleDOI

Chlamydophila psittaci in Fulmars, the Faroe Islands.

TL;DR: Chlamydophila psittaci was detected in 10% of 431 fulmars examined from the Faroe Islands and analysis of ompA showed a sequence almost identical to that of the type strain.
Journal ArticleDOI

A molecular characterization of the charismatic Faroe house mouse

TL;DR: The mtDNA data indicate that the majority of the mice had their origins in south-western Norway (or possibly southern Denmark/northern Germany), and probably arrived with the Vikings, earlier than suggested by Huxley.
