Journal ArticleDOI
Mutation analysis of the MEN1 gene in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, familial acromegaly and familial isolated hyperparathyroidism
Bin Tean Teh,Soili Kytölä,Filip Farnebo,L. Bergman,Fung Ki Wong,Günther Weber,Nicholas K. Hayward,Catharina Larsson,Britt Skogseid,Albert Beckers,Catherine M. Phelan,Matthew S. Edwards,M. Epstein,Frank P. Alford,D Hurley,Sean M. Grimmond,Ginters Silins,Marilyn K. Walters,Christine Stewart,John Cardinal,Shideh Khodaei,Fabienne Parente,L. Tranebjærg,R. Jorde,J. Menon,A. Khir,T. T. Tan,Siew Pheng Chan,A. Zaini,B. A. K. Khalid,Kerstin Sandelin,Norman W. Thompson,M. L. Brandi,M. Warth,John L. Stock,J. Leisti,David Cameron,Joseph J. Shepherd,Kjell Öberg,Magnus Nordenskjöld,Pasi I. Salmela +40 more
TL;DR: No mutation was found in any of the acromegaly and small FIHP families, suggesting that genetic defects other than the MEN1 gene might be involved and that additional such families need to be analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autosomal dominant primary hyperparathyroidism and jaw tumor syndrome associated with renal hamartomas and cystic kidney disease: linkage to 1q21-q32 and loss of the wild type allele in renal hamartomas.
Bin Tean Teh,Filip Farnebo,Ulf Kristoffersson,B. Sundelin,John Cardinal,R. Axelson,Alpha S. Yap,M. Epstein,Hunter Heath,David Cameron,Catharina Larsson +10 more
TL;DR: Two families with HPT-JT syndrome are reported in which adult renal hamartomas or cystic kidney disease were prominent associated features, possibly representing a new phenotypic variant of the HPT, JT syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic testing in familial isolated hyperparathyroidism: unexpected results and their implications.
Janet Warner,M. Epstein,A Sweet,D Singh,John Burgess,S Stranks,P Hill,D Perry-Keene,Diana L. Learoyd,Bruce G. Robinson,P Birdsey,E Mackenzie,Bin Tean Teh,Johannes B. Prins,John Cardinal +14 more
TL;DR: Findings strongly favour a recommendation for MEN1 and CASR genotyping of patients with multiglandular FIHP, irrespective of urinary calcium excretion, and it appears that HRPT2 genotypes should be reserved for cases in which other features of the HPT-JT phenotype have occurred in the kindred.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asthma and insulin resistance in children
Mandana Arshi,John Cardinal,Rebecca J. Hill,Peter Davies,Claire E. Wainwright,Claire E. Wainwright +5 more
TL;DR: Increased BMI is a risk factor for asthma in children and may be related to adipokines, but there is little evidence for such a role in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel susceptibility gene for late-onset NIDDM is localized to human chromosome 12q
Joanne Shaw,Paul K. Lovelock,J. B. Kesting,John Cardinal,David L. Duffy,Brandon J. Wainwright,Donald P. Cameron +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the region of chromosome 12q close to MODY3 harbors a novel susceptibility gene or genes for NIDDM, but sequencing of the 10 exons and promoter of HNF-1alpha did not identify any causative mutation in this gene.
