Latin America Echinoderm Biodiversity and Biogeography: Patterns and Affinities

Angel Pérez-Ruzafa, +72 more
TL;DR: The bathymetrical distribution of the echinoderm classes and the species richness varies according to the depth range and the ocean, and the domination of each class in each substrate and habitat categories also varies differentially along each coast.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reproductive patterns of the abyssal asteroid Styracaster elongatus from the N.E. Atlantic Ocean

TL;DR: This species takes advantage of the pulse of phytodetritus to the seabed by increasing the storage of nutrients in the pyloric caecum in order to maintain a constant production of eggs and sperm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gonad development stages and reproductive traits of Diadema mexicanum (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) from Oaxaca, Mexico

TL;DR: Several reproductive traits of D. mexicanum throughout one year at La Entrega Bay, Oaxaca, in the Mexican tropical Pacific, were analyzed and maturity index or microscopic maturity index “MI” was calculated, which ratified the periodicity of each GDS and spawning preparedness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of temperature increase on fertilization, embryonic development and larval survival of the sea urchin Toxopneustes roseus in the Mexican south Pacific.

TL;DR: The results suggest that T. roseus probably lives near its upper thermal limit, and future ocean warming could threaten the permanence of the species in the eastern tropical Pacific, or at least lead to contraction or fragmentation of its range limits.
