Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for reductive genome evolution and lateral acquisition of virulence functions in two Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis strains.

Jeronimo C. Ruiz, +61 more
- 18 Apr 2011 -
TL;DR: These particular genome characteristics of C. pseudotuberculosis, as well as its acquired virulence factors in pathogenicity islands, provide evidence of its lifestyle and of the pathogenic pathways used by this pathogen in the infection process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biomarkers for serum diagnosis of infectious diseases and their potential application in novel sensor platforms.

TL;DR: Metic peptides were selected against polyclonal antibodies from patients with dengue fever, leprosy, and leishmaniasis as model diseases, and from immunized chickens with total antigens from all three pathogens, to develop two methods for nanoparticle agglutination assays and two electrochemical biosensors for DNA and antibody detection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heterologous expression of abaecin peptide from Apis mellifera in Pichia pastoris.

TL;DR: The recombinant AbaECin (rAbaecin) has efficiently decreased E. coli growth (P < 0.05) through an in vitro assay, and may be considered as a novel therapeutic agent that may complement other conventional antibiotic therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI

In silico analysis for identification of tick phagotopes selected by phage-displayed libraries

TL;DR: The present study demonstrates the feasibility of identifying important R. (B.) microplus phagotopes for vaccine development through screening of phage-displayed random peptide libraries and bioinformatics tools.
