Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for reductive genome evolution and lateral acquisition of virulence functions in two Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis strains.

Jeronimo C. Ruiz, +61 more
- 18 Apr 2011 -
TL;DR: These particular genome characteristics of C. pseudotuberculosis, as well as its acquired virulence factors in pathogenicity islands, provide evidence of its lifestyle and of the pathogenic pathways used by this pathogen in the infection process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative genomics of the major fungal agents of human and animal Sporotrichosis: Sporothrix schenckii and Sporothrix brasiliensis

TL;DR: Comparative genomic data suggest a unique ecological shift in the Sporothrix lineage from plant-association to mammalian parasitism, which contributes to the understanding of how environmental interactions may shape fungal virulence.
Journal ArticleDOI

The TryPIKinome of five human pathogenic trypanosomatids: Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania major, Leishmania braziliensis and Leishmania infantum - New tools for designing specific inhibitors

TL;DR: The first report on a survey made by similarity searches against the five human pathogenic trypanosomatid genomes available to date for phosphatidylinositol- and related-kinases (TryPIKs) suggests that new subtype-specific inhibitors are expected to work on individual members of the PIK family and, therefore, can presumably neutralize trypano-based invasion processes.
