Management of postoperative pain: A clinical practice guideline from the american pain society, the american society of regional anesthesia and pain medicine, and the american society of anesthesiologists' committee on regional anesthesia, executive committee, and administrative council.
Roger Chou,Debra B. Gordon,Oscar A. de Leon-Casasola,Jack M. Rosenberg,Stephen W. Bickler,Timothy J. Brennan,Todd Carter,Carla L. Cassidy,Eva Chittenden,Ernest Degenhardt,Scott R. Griffith,Renee C.B. Manworren,Bill McCarberg,Robert R. Montgomery,Jamie D. Murphy,Melissa F. Perkal,Santhanam Suresh,Kathleen A. Sluka,Scott A. Strassels,Richard C. Thirlby,Eugene R. Viscusi,Gary A. Walco,Lisa Warner,Steven J. Weisman,Christopher L. Wu +24 more
TL;DR: The American Pain Society, with input from the American Society of Anesthesiologists, developed a clinical practice guideline to promote evidence-based, effective, and safer postoperative pain management in children and adults.
Journal ArticleDOI
The revised International Association for the Study of Pain definition of pain: concepts, challenges, and compromises.
Srinivasa N. Raja,Daniel B. Carr,Milton Cohen,Nanna B. Finnerup,Nanna B. Finnerup,Herta Flor,Stephen J. Gibson,Francis J. Keefe,Jeffrey S. Mogil,Matthias Ringkamp,Kathleen A. Sluka,Xue-Jun Song,Bonnie Stevens,Mark D. Sullivan,Perri R. Tutelman,Takahiro Ushida,Kyle Vader +16 more
TL;DR: This review provides a synopsis of the critical concepts, the analysis of comments from the IASP membership and public, and the committee's final recommendations for revisions to the definition and notes, which were discussed over a 2-year period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation: Basic science mechanisms and clinical effectiveness
TL;DR: TENS is a noninvasive modality that is easy to apply with relatively few contraindications, however, the clinical efficacy of TENS will remain equivocal until the publication of sufficient numbers of high quality, randomized, controlled clinical trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
The DRASIC Cation Channel Contributes to the Detection of Cutaneous Touch and Acid Stimuli in Mice
Margaret P. Price,Sabrina L. McIlwrath,Jinghui Xie,Chun Cheng,Jing Qiao,Deirdre E. Tarr,Kathleen A. Sluka,Timothy J. Brennan,Gary R. Lewin,Michael J. Welsh,Michael J. Welsh +10 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that DRASic subunits participate in heteromultimeric channel complexes in sensory neurons, and in different cellular contexts, DRASIC may respond to mechanical stimuli or to low pH to mediate normal touch and pain sensation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unilateral intramuscular injections of acidic saline produce a bilateral, long-lasting hyperalgesia
TL;DR: This new model of widespread, chronic muscle‐induced pain is unrelated to tissue damage and is not maintained by continued primary afferent input from the site of injury.
