Journal ArticleDOI
MagAO Imaging of Long-period Objects (MILO). I. A Benchmark M Dwarf Companion Exciting a Massive Planet around the Sun-like Star HD 7449
Timothy J. Rodigas,Pamela Arriagada,Jackie Faherty,Guillem Anglada-Escudé,Nathan A. Kaib,R. Paul Butler,Stephen A. Shectman,Alycia J. Weinberger,Jared R. Males,Katie M. Morzinski,Laird M. Close,Philip M. Hinz,Jeffrey D. Crane,Ian B. Thompson,Johanna Teske,Matías R. Díaz,Matías R. Díaz,Dante Minniti,Mercedes Lopez-Morales,Fred C. Adams,Alan P. Boss +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present high-contrast Magellan adaptive optics (MagAO) images of HD 7449, a Sun-like star with one planet and a long-term radial velocity (RV) trend.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical calibration and performance of the adaptive secondary mirror at the Magellan telescope
Runa Briguglio,Fernando Quiros-Pacheco,Jared R. Males,Marco Xompero,Armando Riccardi,Laird M. Close,Katie M. Morzinski,Simone Esposito,Enrico Pinna,Alfio Puglisi,Lauren Schatz,Kelsey Miller +11 more
TL;DR: The procedures developed to achieve high SNR interferometric measurements of the ASM modes under the presence of dome convection noise and telescope vibrations are described, and the optical quality of MagAO mirror is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Minimum variance control for mitigation of vibrations in adaptive optics systems.
Pedro Escárate,Rodrigo Carvajal,Laird M. Close,Jared R. Males,Katie M. Morzinski,Juan C. Agüero +5 more
TL;DR: This work addresses the design of a minimum variance controller (MVC) for the mitigation of vibrations in modern telescope adaptive optics (AO) systems and shows that the MVC is an equivalent representation of the linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller for the AO system.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Into the Blue: AO Science with MagAO in the Visible
Laird M. Close,Jared R. Males,Katherine B. Follette,Phil Hinz,Katie M. Morzinski,Ya-Lin Wu,Derek Kopon,Armando Riccardi,Simone Esposito,Alfio Puglisi,Enrico Pinna,Marco Xompero,Runa Briguglio,Fernando Quiros-Pacheco +13 more
TL;DR: The Magellan telescope AO system (MagAO) as mentioned in this paper is an advanced adaptive secondary system with 585 actuators with < 1 msec response times (0.7 ms typically).
