Terawatt-scale photovoltaics: Trajectories and challenges
Nancy M. Haegel,Robert Margolis,Tonio Buonassisi,David Feldman,Armin Froitzheim,Raffi Garabedian,Martin A. Green,Stefan W. Glunz,Hans-Martin Henning,Burkhard Holder,Izumi Kaizuka,Benjamin Kroposki,Koji Matsubara,Shigeru Niki,Keiichiro Sakurai,R. Schindler,William Tumas,Eicke R. Weber,Gregory M. Wilson,Michael Woodhouse,Sarah Kurtz +20 more
TL;DR: This work assesses realistic future scenarios and makes suggestions for a global agenda to move toward PVs at a multi-TW scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Terawatt-scale photovoltaics: Transform global energy
Nancy M. Haegel,Harry A. Atwater,Teresa M. Barnes,Christian Breyer,Anthony K. Burrell,Yet-Ming Chiang,Stefaan De Wolf,Bernhard Dimmler,David Feldman,Stefan W. Glunz,Jan Christoph Goldschmidt,David Hochschild,Ruben Inzunza,Izumi Kaizuka,Ben Kroposki,Sarah Kurtz,Sylvere Leu,Robert Margolis,Koji Matsubara,Axel Metz,Wyatt K. Metzger,Mahesh Morjaria,Shigeru Niki,Stefan Nowak,Ian Marius Peters,Simon P. Philipps,Thomas Reindl,André Richter,Doug Rose,Keiichiro Sakurai,Rutger Schlatmann,Masahiro Shikano,W.C. Sinke,Ronald A. Sinton,B.J. Stanbery,Marko Topič,William Tumas,Yuzuru Ueda,Jao van de Lagemaat,Pierre J. Verlinden,Matthias Vetter,Emily L. Warren,Mary Werner,Masafumi Yamaguchi,Andreas W. Bett +44 more
TL;DR: A future with ∼10 TW of PV by 2030 and 30 to 70 TW by 2050 is envisioned, providing a majority of global energy, and what is needed in research in PV performance, reliability, manufacturing, and recycling is summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
ZnO transparent conducting films deposited by pulsed laser deposition for solar cell applications
Koji Matsubara,Paul Fons,Kakuya Iwata,Akimasa Yamada,Keiichiro Sakurai,Hitoshi Tampo,S. Niki +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, low resistivity and highly transparent ZnO conducting films for thin-film solar cell applications were fabricated at low temperature by pulsed laser deposition, which achieved an average optical transmission of 91% for wavelengths between 400 and 1100 nm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of thermal annealing of ZnO layers grown by MBE
TL;DR: In this paper, annealing of ZnO layers was done in N 2 or O 2 atmosphere and their effects were studied and it was shown that the number of interstitial Zn (Zn i ) and O vacancies (V O ) decrease, probably because the effective incorporation of O atom diminishes those donor levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
CIGS solar cell with MBE-grown ZnS buffer layer
Muhammad Monirul Islam,Shogo Ishizuka,Akimasa Yamada,Keiichiro Sakurai,S. Niki,Takeaki Sakurai,Katsuhiro Akimoto +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of an MBE-grown ZnS buffer layer was compared to that of a CdS buffer, and it was found that the performance with the buffer layer is inferior compared to the one with a 50nm buffer layer.
