Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms and functions of eph and ephrin signalling
Klas Kullander,Rüdiger Klein +1 more
TL;DR: The concept of bidirectional signalling has emerged as an important mechanism by which Ephs and ephrins control the output signal in processes of cell–cell communication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in DMRT3 affect locomotion in horses and spinal circuit function in mice
Lisa S. Andersson,Martin Larhammar,Fatima Memic,Hanna Wootz,Doreen Schwochow,Carl-Johan Rubin,Kalicharan Patra,Thorvaldur Árnason,Lisbeth Wellbring,Göran Hjälm,Freyja Imsland,Jessica L. Petersen,Molly E. McCue,James R. Mickelson,Gus Cothran,Nadav Ahituv,Lars Roepstorff,Sofia Mikko,Anna Vallstedt,Gabriella Lindgren,Leif Andersson,Leif Andersson,Klas Kullander +22 more
TL;DR: This work shows that a premature stop codon in the DMRT3 gene has a major effect on the pattern of locomotion in horses, and positions Dmrt3 in a pivotal role for configuring the spinal circuits controlling stride in vertebrates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of EphA4 and EphrinB3 in local neuronal circuits that control walking.
Klas Kullander,Simon J. B. Butt,James M. Lebret,Line Lundfald,Carlos Ernesto Restrepo,Anna Rydström,Rüdiger Klein,Ole Kiehn +7 more
TL;DR: This study shows that dramatic locomotor changes can occur as a consequence of local genetic rewiring and identifies genes required for the development of normal locomotor behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
OLM interneurons differentially modulate CA3 and entorhinal inputs to hippocampal CA1 neurons
Richardson N. Leão,Sanja Mikulovic,Katarina E. Leão,Katarina E. Leão,Hermany Munguba,Henrik Gezelius,Anders Enjin,Kalicharan Patra,Anders Eriksson,Leslie M. Loew,Adriano B. L. Tort,Klas Kullander,Klas Kullander +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that acetylcholine acting through OLM cells can control the mnemonic processes executed by the hippocampus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuron-glia communication via EphA4/ephrin-A3 modulates LTP through glial glutamate transport.
Alessandro Filosa,Sónia Paixão,Silke D. Honsek,Maria A. Carmona,Lore Becker,Berend Feddersen,Louise Gaitanos,York Rudhard,Ralf Schoepfer,Thomas Klopstock,Klas Kullander,Christine R. Rose,Elena B. Pasquale,Ruediger Klein +13 more
TL;DR: It is shown that long-term potentiation (LTP) at the CA3–CA1 synapse is modulated by EphA4 in the postsynaptic CA1 cell and by ephrin-A3, a ligand of EPhA4 that is found in astrocytes, suggesting that Eph a4/ephrin-A 3 signaling is a critical mechanism for astroCytes to regulate synaptic function and plasticity.
