Journal ArticleDOI
Structure and dynamics of galaxies with a low surface-brightness disc – II. Stellar populations of bulges
Lorenzo Morelli,Lorenzo Morelli,Enrico Maria Corsini,Enrico Maria Corsini,Alessandro Pizzella,Alessandro Pizzella,E. Dalla Bontà,E. Dalla Bontà,Lodovico Coccato,J. Méndez-Abreu,M. Cesetti,M. Cesetti +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the radial profiles of the Hβ, Mg and Fe line-strength indices for a sample of eight spiral galaxies with a low-surface-brightness stellar disc and a bulge are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for the formation of the young counter-rotating stellar disk from gas acquired by IC 719
Alessandro Pizzella,Alessandro Pizzella,Lorenzo Morelli,Lorenzo Morelli,Lodovico Coccato,Enrico Maria Corsini,Enrico Maria Corsini,E. Dalla Bontà,E. Dalla Bontà,M. H. Fabricius,Roberto P. Saglia +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors exploit the large field of view and wavelength coverage of the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) spectrograph to derive two-dimensional (2D) maps of the various properties of the counter-rotating stellar disks, such as age, metallicity, kinematics, spatial distribution, the kinematical and chemical properties of ionized gas, and the dust map.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sloshing in its cD halo: MUSE kinematics of the central galaxy NGC 3311 in the Hydra I cluster
C. E. Barbosa,Magda Arnaboldi,Magda Arnaboldi,Lodovico Coccato,Ortwin Gerhard,C. Mendes de Oliveira,Michael Hilker,Tom Richtler +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the main structural components of the Hydra I cD galaxy NGC 3311 to investigate the connection between the central galaxy and the surrounding stellar halo.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Fornax 3D project: Thick disks in a cluster environment
F. Pinna,F. Pinna,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,Marie Martig,Lodovico Coccato,Enrico Maria Corsini,Enrico Maria Corsini,P. T. de Zeeuw,P. T. de Zeeuw,Dimitri A. Gadotti,Enrichetta Iodice,Ryan Leaman,Mariya Lyubenova,Ignacio Martín-Navarro,Ignacio Martín-Navarro,L. Morelli,L. Morelli,Marc Sarzi,G. van de Ven,G. van de Ven,Sébastien Viaene,Sébastien Viaene,Richard M. McDermid,Richard M. McDermid +24 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used deep MUSE observations to perform a stellar-kinematic and population analysis of FCC 153 and FCC 177, two edge-on S0 galaxies in the Fornax cluster.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resolving the disc–halo degeneracy – I: a look at NGC 628
Suryashree Aniyan,Suryashree Aniyan,Kenneth C. Freeman,Magda Arnaboldi,Ortwin Gerhard,Lodovico Coccato,Maximilian Fabricius,Konrad Kuijken,Michael R. Merrifield,Anastasia A. Ponomareva,Anastasia A. Ponomareva +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the scale height and scale dispersion of stars in the face-on galaxy NGC 628 were used to estimate the mass-to-light ratio (M/L) of the disc.
