Journal ArticleDOI

Local and systemic insulin resistance resulting from hepatic activation of IKK-β and NF-κB

TL;DR: It is shown that lipid accumulation in the liver leads to subacute hepatic 'inflammation' through NF-κB activation and downstream cytokine production, which causes insulin resistance both locally in liver and systemically.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reversal of Obesity- and Diet-Induced Insulin Resistance with Salicylates or Targeted Disruption of Ikkβ

TL;DR: It is shown that high doses of salicylates reverse hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and dyslipidemia in obese rodents by sensitizing insulin signaling and identifies the IKKβ pathway as a target for insulin sensitization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insulin resistance due to phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate-1 at serine 302.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that phosphorylation at both Ser-302 and Ser-307 is necessary for JNK1-mediated inhibition of the IR/IRS-1 interaction and that Ser-304 and Ser(P)-307 are phosphorylated in parallel in cultured cells and in vivo under conditions that lead to insulin resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of Tyrosine Residues in the Intracellular Domain of the Growth Hormone Receptor Required for Transcriptional Signaling and Stat5 Activation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that specific tyrosines in the GH receptor are required for transcriptional signaling possibly by their role in the activation of transcription factor Stat5.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of the Inhibitory Effect of Growth Hormone on Primary Preadipocyte Differentiation

TL;DR: The data suggest that GH exerts its inhibitory activity in adipocyte differentiation at a step after the induction of ADD1 but before the inductionOf genes required for terminal differentiation, which could be related to the antiadipogenic effect of GH.
