A European research infrastructure for the aerosol study on a continental scale: EARLINET-ASOS
Aldo Amodeo,Gelsomina Pappalardo,Jens Bösenberg,Albert Ansmann,Arnoud Apituley,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Dimitris Balis,Christine Böckmann,Anatoly Chaikovsky,Adolfo Comerón,Volker Freudenthaler,Ove Gustaffson,Georg Hansen,Valentin Mitev,Doina Nicolae,Alexandros Papayannis,Maria Rita Perrone,Aleksander Pietruczuk,Manuel Pujadas,Jean-Philippe Putaud,François Ravetta,Vincenzo Rizi,Valentin Simeonov,Nicola Spinelli,Dimitar Stoyanov,Thomas Trickl,Matthias Wiegner +26 more
TL;DR: The European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET) as discussed by the authors is the first aerosol lidar network, established in 2000, with the main goal to provide a comprehensive, quantitative, and statistically significant database for the aerosol distribution on a continental scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wind and Turbulence Statistics in the Urban Boundary Layer over a Mountain-Valley System in Granada, Spain
Pablo Ortiz-Amezcua,Alodía Martínez-Herrera,Antti Manninen,Pyry Pentikäinen,Ewan O'Connor,Juan Luis Guerrero-Rascado,Lucas Alados-Arboledas +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the first ever measurements of wind with high temporal and vertical resolution throughout the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) over a medium-sized city surrounded by mountains in southern Spain have been gathered with a scanning Doppler lidar system and analyzed using the Halo lidar toolbox processing chain developed at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

February 2017 extreme Saharan dust outbreak in the Iberian Peninsula: from lidar-derived optical properties to evaluation of forecast models
A.J. Fernández,Michaël Sicard,Maria João Costa,Juan Luis Guerrero-Rascado,José Luis Gómez-Amo,Francisco Molero,Ruben Barragan,Daniele Bortoli,Andrés Esteban Bedoya-Velásquez,María P. Utrillas,Pedro Salvador,Maria Jose Granados-Muñoz,Miguel Potes,Pablo Ortiz-Amezcua,J.A. Martínez-Lozano,Begoña Artíñano,Constantino Muñoz-Porcar,Rui Salgado,Roberto Román,Francesc Rocadenbosch,Vanda Salgueiro,Jose Antonio Benavent-Oltra,Alejandro Rodríguez-Gómez,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Adolfo Comerón,Manuel Pujadas +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on aerosol optical properties observed under this extreme Saharan dust outbreak through remote sensing (active and passive) techniques, and find that the optical properties are also stable with height in the dust layer.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Comparison of aerosol size distributions measured at ground level and calculated from inversion of solar radiances
Francisco Molero,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Manuel Pujadas,Antonio Alcantara,Victoria E. Cachorro,Victor Estellés,Francisco Olmo,José A. Martínez-Lozano,Jerónimo Lorente,Juan P. Díaz,A. Labajo,Benito de la Morena,H. Horvath,Ana Maria Silva +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present observational evidence of the limitations of this simplifying assumption in cases where the aerosol vertical structure is highly inhomogeneous, and they compare the column-integrated and the modified ground-level aerosol size distributions using retrieved scale height values from a lidar extinction coefficient profiles.
