David Frank,Benjamin Poulter,Matthias Saurer,Jan Esper,Chris Huntingford,Gerhard Helle,Kerstin Treydte,Niklaus E. Zimmermann,Gerhard H. Schleser,Anders Ahlström,Philippe Ciais,Pierre Friedlingstein,Samuel Levis,Mark R. Lomas,Stephen Sitch,Nicolas Viovy,Laia Andreu-Hayles,Z. Rinne,Antonio Saracino,Eloni Sonninen,Michel Stievenard,V. R. Switsur,M. Szczepanek,Elżbieta Szychowska‐Kra̧piec,Luigi Todaro,John S. Waterhouse,Martin Weigl +49 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used long-term δ13C tree-ring measurements across a European forest network to reconstruct the physiologically driven response of intercellular CO2 caused by atmospheric CO2 (Ca) trends.
Journal ArticleDOI
Signal strength and climate calibration of a European tree-ring isotope network
Kerstin Treydte,David Frank,Jan Esper,Laia Andreu,Z. Bednarz,Frank Berninger,Tatjana Boettger,Carmela Miriam D’Alessandro,N. Etien,M. Filot,Michael Grabner,M. T. Schleser +39 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the first European network of tree ring δ13C and δ18O, containing 23 sites from Finland to Morocco, was presented, where common climate signals are found over broad climatic-ecological ranges.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wood Cellulose Preparation Methods and Mass Spectrometric Analyses of δ13C, δ18O, and Nonexchangeable δ2H Values in Cellulose, Sugar, and Starch: An Interlaboratory Comparison
Tatjana Boettger,Marika Haupt,Kay Knöller,Stephan M. Weise,John S. Waterhouse,Katja T. Rinne,Neil J. Loader,Eloni Sonninen,Hogne Jungner,Valerie Masson-Delmotte,Michel Stievenard,Marie-Thérèse Guillemin,Monique Pierre,Anna Pazdur,Markus C Leuenberger,M. Filot,Matthias Saurer,Christina E. Reynolds,Gerd Helle,G. H. Schleser +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of nine European stable isotope laboratories' results of cellulose preparation resulted in data that generally agreed within the precision of the isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) method used.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid online equilibration method to determine the D/H ratios of non-exchangeable hydrogen in cellulose.
TL;DR: An improved method for the determination of deuterium-to-hydrogen (D/H) ratios of non-exchangeable hydrogen in cellulose is presented, based on the equilibration reaction of the hydroxyl hydrogen of cellulose and water vapour of known isotopic composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatio‐temporal patterns of tree growth as related to carbon isotope fractionation in European forests under changing climate
Tatiana A. Shestakova,Jordi Voltas,Matthias Saurer,Frank Berninger,Jan Esper,Laia Andreu-Hayles,Valérie Daux,Gerhard Helle,Markus Leuenberger,Neil J. TL;DR: Tatiana A. Shestakova as mentioned in this paper was the first person to propose the idea of using a set of hand-crafted rules to solve the problem of gender discrimination in the literature.
