Impairment of Tetanus Toxoid-Specific Thl-like Immune Responses in Humans Infected with Schistosoma mansoni

TL;DR: Results suggest that S. mansoni-infected persons mount a Th2-like response to the bystander antigen TT, while uninfected personsMount a Th1- or Th0- like response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assembly of a pan-genome from deep sequencing of 910 humans of African descent

TL;DR: A deeply sequenced dataset of 910 individuals, all of African descent, is used to construct a set of DNA sequences that is present in these individuals but missing from the reference human genome, demonstrating that the African pan-genome contains ~10% more DNA than the current human reference genome.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inverse association between skin response to aeroallergens and Schistosoma mansoni infection.

TL;DR: There was a strong and statistically significant inverse association between the immediate skin test response to common aeroallergens and infection by S. mansoni, and the results indicate that immediate hypersensitivity reactions may be suppressed in S.mansoni-infected individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunology of Parasitic Helminth Infections

TL;DR: Parasitic helminths, or worms, comprise a diverse group of metazoan organisms that infect billions of people and their domesticated animals worldwide.
