Keoki Williams,Kathleen C. Barnes,Carole Ober,Dan L. Nicolae +79 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that some asthma susceptibility loci are robust to differences in ancestry when sufficiently large samples sizes are investigated, and that ancestry-specific associations also contribute to the complex genetic architecture of asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Severe Community-Onset Pneumonia in Healthy Adults Caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Carrying the Panton-Valentine Leukocidin Genes
John S. Francis,Meg Doherty,Uri Lopatin,Cecilia P. Johnston,Gita Sinha,Tracy Ross,Mian Cai,Nadia N. Hansel,Trish M. Perl,John R. Ticehurst,Karen C. Carroll,David L. Thomas,Eric L. Nuermberger,John G. Bartlett +13 more
TL;DR: These patients represent the first reported North American adults with severe community-onset MRSA pneumonia caused by strains carrying the PVL genes and belonged to the USA300 pulsed-field type.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detectable clonal mosaicism from birth to old age and its relationship to cancer.

Pasquale,Christopher A. Haiman,Neil E. Caporaso,Bruce S. Weir +72 more
TL;DR: Clonal mosaicism for large chromosomal anomalies (duplications, deletions and uniparental disomy) is detected using SNP microarray data from over 50,000 subjects recruited for genome-wide association studies to identify common deleted regions with genes previously associated with hematological cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Significance of Symptoms in Smokers with Preserved Pulmonary Function
Prescott G. Woodruff,R. Graham Barr,Eugene R. Bleecker,Stephanie A. Christenson,David Couper,Jeffrey L. Curtis,Natalia Gouskova,Nadia N. Hansel,Eric A. Hoffman,Richard E. Kanner,Eric C. Kleerup,Stephen C. Lazarus,Fernando J. Martinez,Robert Paine,Stephen I. Rennard,Donald P. Tashkin,MeiLan K. Han +16 more
TL;DR: Although they do not meet the current criteria for COPD, symptomatic current or former smokers with preserved pulmonary function have exacerbations, activity limitation, and evidence of airway disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The clinical features of the overlap between COPD and asthma
Megan Hardin,Edwin K. Silverman,R. Graham Barr,Nadia N. Hansel,Joyce D. Schroeder,Barry J. Make,James D. Crapo,Craig P. Hersh +7 more
TL;DR: Subjects with COPD and asthma represent a relevant clinical population, with worse health-related quality of life, and experience more frequent and severe respiratory exacerbations despite younger age and reduced lifetime smoking history.
