Journal ArticleDOI
Dermaseptins from Phyllomedusa oreades and Phyllomedusa distincta. Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi activity without cytotoxicity to mammalian cells.
Guilherme D. Brand,Guilherme D. Brand,José Roberto S. A. Leite,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Luciano P. Silva,Luciano P. Silva,Sérgio de Albuquerque,Maura V. Prates,Maura V. Prates,Ricardo Bentes Azevedo,Vanessa Carregaro,João Santana da Silva,Vanuza C.L. Sá,Reuber Albuquerque Brandão,Carlos Bloch +14 more
TL;DR: DS 01 is a 29-residue-long peptide with a molecular mass of 2793 Da showing antibacterial properties against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in the range of 3-25 microm, suggesting its therapeutic value especially as an anti-T.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylloseptins: a novel class of anti-bacterial and anti-protozoan peptides from the Phyllomedusa genus.
José Roberto S. A. Leite,Luciano P. Silva,Maria Izabel S. Rodrigues,Maura V. Prates,Guilherme D. Brand,Bruno M. Lacava,Ricardo Bentes Azevedo,Anamélia Lorenzetti Bocca,Sérgio de Albuquerque,Carlos Bloch +9 more
TL;DR: Six novel peptides called phylloseptins showing anti-bacterial and anti-protozoan activities were isolated from the skin secretion of the Brazilian tree-frogs and Phyllomedusa oreades, and Atomic force microscopy experiments indicated that the bacteriolytic properties of these peptides might be related to their disruptive action on the cell membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of a cowpea γ-thionin with bactericidal activity
Octavio L. Franco,André M. Murad,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Paulo A. M. Mendes,Maura V. Prates,Carlos Bloch +5 more
TL;DR: The purification and characterization of a novel γ‐thionin from cowpea seeds with bactericidal activity against Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria is reported and the use of plant defensins in the construction of transgenic plants and also in the production of novel drugs with activity against human pathogens is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel dermaseptins from Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis (Amphibia).
Guilherme D. Brand,Guilherme D. Brand,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Saulo Martins de Sá Mandel,Darlan A. Mesquita,Luciano P. Silva,Maura V. Prates,Eder Alves Barbosa,Felipe Vinecky,Graciella R. Martins,João Henrique Galasso,Selma A S Kuckelhaus,Raimunda Nonata Ribeiro Sampaio,José R. Furtado,Alan Carvalho Andrade,Carlos Bloch +15 more
TL;DR: Six new antimicrobial peptides structurally related to the dermaseptin family have been isolated from the skin secretion of the amphibian Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis by de novo MS/MS experiments, Edman degradation, and cDNA sequencing.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 2S albumin-homologous protein from passion fruit seeds inhibits the fungal growth and acidification of the medium by Fusarium oxysporum.
Ana Paula Agizzio,André de Oliveira Carvalho,Suzanna F. F. Ribeiro,Olga L.T. Machado,Elias W. Alves,Lev A. Okorokov,Solange Silva Samarão,Carlos Bloch,Maura V. Prates,Valdirene Moreira Gomes +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of defense-related proteins from passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) seeds was investigated, and two proteins, named Pf1 and Pf2, were eluted in 0.1 and 0.2M of salt, respectively, and submitted to reverse phase chromatography in HPLC.
