Journal ArticleDOI
Gas exchange responses to bronchodilators following methacholine challenge in dogs.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors determine how and why different bronchodilators affect ventilation-perfusion relationships differently in experimental asthma, 10 anesthetized dogs were exposed 3 times each (2-½ h apart) to aer...
Journal ArticleDOI
Adrenergic Polymorphism and the Human Stress Response
Fangwen Rao,Lian Zhang,Jennifer Wessel,Kuixing Zhang,Gen Wen,Brian P. Kennedy,Brinda K. Rana,Madhusudan Das,Juan L. Rodriguez-Flores,Douglas W. Smith,Peter E. Cadman,Rany M. Salem,Sushil K. Mahata,Nicholas J. Schork,Laurent Taupenot,Michael G. Ziegler,Daniel T. O'Connor +16 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that human catecholamine secretory traits are heritable, displaying joint genetic determination with autonomic activity and with blood pressure in the population, and suggested new strategies to approach the mechanism, diagnosis, and treatment of systemic hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma dopamine-β-hydroxylase activity and norepinephrine levels during the human menstrual cycle
TL;DR: An association between peripheral sympathetic nervous system activity and the midcycle surge in plasma gonadotropins reported by others was not reproducible in a study of normally menstruating women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Problem Behavior of Dementia Patients Predicts Low-Grade Hypercoagulability in Spousal Caregivers
Roland von Känel,Roland von Känel,Brent T. Mausbach,Joel E. Dimsdale,Paul J. Mills,Thomas L. Patterson,Sonia Ancoli-Israel,Michael G. Ziegler,Susan K. Roepke,Susan K. Roepke,Matthew A. Allison,Igor Grant +11 more
TL;DR: Alzheimer patients' problem behavior and their negative appraisal by the caregiver may contribute to the chronic low-grade hypercoagulable state in dementia caregivers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotid plaque in Alzheimer caregivers and the role of sympathoadrenal arousal.
Susan K. Roepke,Elizabeth A. Chattillion,Roland von Känel,Matthew A. Allison,Michael G. Ziegler,Joel E. Dimsdale,Paul J. Mills,Thomas L. Patterson,Sonia Ancoli-Israel,Susan Calleran,Alexandrea L. Harmell,Igor Grant +11 more
TL;DR: Poorer epinephrine recovery after acute stress was associated with the presence of plaque in caregivers but not in noncaregivers, and a prolonged sympathoadrenal response to acute stress might enhance the development of atherosclerosis in chronically stressed Alzheimer caregivers.
