Distribution of heavy metals in road dust along an urban-rural gradient in Massachusetts

TL;DR: In this paper, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyses of 115 parked car tires showed Zn and Ca were likely associated with tire wear dust, and the results indicated that roadway dust may be important sources of metals for runoff water and localized resuspended particulate matter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adverse effects from environmental mercury loads on breeding common loons.

TL;DR: The common loon is used as an upper trophic level bioindicator of aquatic Hg toxicity in freshwater lakes to measure significant changes related to elevated MeHg body burdens, including aberrant incubation behavior, lethargy, and wing area asymmetry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stable Isotope (N, C, Hg) Study of Methylmercury Sources and Trophic Transfer in the Northern Gulf of Mexico

TL;DR: This article combined N, C, and Hg stable isotope measurements to identify the most important factors that influence MeHg accumulation in fish from the northern Gulf of Mexico (nGOM), and to determine if coa...
Journal ArticleDOI

Interactions between microplastics, pharmaceuticals and personal care products: Implications for vector transport.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors synthesize and critically assess various factors that affect the adsorption of hydrophilic compounds such as PPCPs on microplastic surfaces and their fate and transport in the environment.
