Quantifying global soil carbon losses in response to warming

Thomas W. Crowther, +52 more
- 01 Dec 2016 -
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a comprehensive analysis of warming-induced changes in soil carbon stocks by assembling data from 49 field experiments located across North America, Europe and Asia, and provide estimates of soil carbon sensitivity to warming that may help to constrain Earth system model projections.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal adaptation of soil microbial respiration to elevated temperature.

TL;DR: Using a > 15 year soil warming experiment in a mid-latitude forest, it is shown that the apparent 'acclimation' of soil respiration at the ecosystem scale results from combined effects of reductions in soil carbon pools and microbial biomass, and thermal adaptation of microbial respiration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Soil warming, carbon–nitrogen interactions, and forest carbon budgets

TL;DR: Although soil warming has resulted in a cumulative net loss of carbon from a New England forest relative to a control area over the 7-y study, the annual net losses generally decreased over time as plant carbon storage increased.
