Journal ArticleDOI
Detecting Amyloid Positivity in Elderly With Increased Risk of Cognitive Decline.
Timo Pekkala,Anette Hall,Tiia Ngandu,Tiia Ngandu,Mark van Gils,Seppo Helisalmi,Tuomo Hänninen,Nina Kemppainen,Nina Kemppainen,Yawu Liu,Jyrki Lötjönen,Teemu Paajanen,Juha O. Rinne,Juha O. Rinne,Hilkka Soininen,Miia Kivipelto,Alina Solomon,Alina Solomon +17 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that combining demographic data, vascular risk factors, cognitive performance, APOE genotype, and brain MRI measures can help identify Aβ positivity, and MRI was the most effective factor, especially brain volumes and visual MTA rating but not cortical thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multidomain, two-year, randomized controlled trial to prevent cognitive impairment: the finger study
Alina Solomon,Esko Levälahti,Hilkka Soininen,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Jaana Lindström,Jenni Lehtisalo,Markku Peltonen,Miia Kivipelto,Riitta Antikainen,Teemu Paajanen,Tiia Ngandu,Tiina Laatikainen,Timo E. Strandberg,Tuomo Hänninen +13 more
TL;DR: The Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) investigated the effects of a 2-year intervention targeting several lifestyle and vascular risk factors simultaneously, one of the first intervention trials in the world to take a multidomain approach to dementia prevention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain β-Amyloid and Atrophy in Individuals at Increased Risk of Cognitive Decline
I. K. Martikainen,Nina Kemppainen,Nina Kemppainen,Jarkko Johansson,Jarmo Teuho,Semi Helin,Yawu Liu,Seppo Helisalmi,Hilkka Soininen,Riitta Parkkola,Tiia Ngandu,Tiia Ngandu,Miia Kivipelto,Juha O. Rinne,Juha O. Rinne +14 more
TL;DR: Results show a significant association between increases in brain β-amyloid and reductions in regional GM volume in individuals at increased risk of cognitive decline, consistent with a model in which increases in β-Amyloid incite neurodegeneration in memory systems before cognitive impairment manifests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying dementia prevention potential in the FINGER randomized controlled trial using the LIBRA prevention index.
Kay Deckers,Sebastian Köhler,Tiia Ngandu,Tiia Ngandu,Riitta Antikainen,Riitta Antikainen,Tiina Laatikainen,Tiina Laatikainen,Hilkka Soininen,Timo E. Strandberg,Timo E. Strandberg,Frans R.J. Verhey,Miia Kivipelto,Alina Solomon,Alina Solomon,Alina Solomon +15 more
TL;DR: In the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER), the authors investigated in post hoc analyses whether the cognitive benefits of the 2-year multi-domain lifestyle intervention differed by baseline dementia risk measured with the "LIfestyle for BRAin Health" (LIBRA) score.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of Self-Rated Health and Self-Rated Physical Fitness in Middle and Old Age
Kimmo Kuosmanen,Suvi P. Rovio,Miia Kivipelto,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Aulikki Nissinen,Jenni Kulmala +5 more
TL;DR: SRH and SRF are considered reliable indicators of mental and physical health status, and should be accorded more importance when evaluating health among middle-aged and older people.
