Functional delivery of viral miRNAs via exosomes
D. Michiel Pegtel,Katherine Cosmopoulos,David A. Thorley-Lawson,Monique A. J. van Eijndhoven,Erik S. Hopmans,Jelle J. Lindenberg,Tanja D. de Gruijl,Thomas Wurdinger,Jaap M. Middeldorp +8 more
TL;DR: These findings are consistent with miRNA-mediated gene silencing as a potential mechanism of intercellular communication between cells of the immune system that may be exploited by the persistent human γ-herpesvirus EBV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nontemplated Nucleotide Additions Distinguish the Small RNA Composition in Cells from Exosomes
Danijela Koppers-Lalic,Michael Hackenberg,Irene V. Bijnsdorp,Monique A. J. van Eijndhoven,Payman Sadek,D. Sie,Nicoletta Zini,Jaap M. Middeldorp,Bauke Ylstra,Renee X. de Menezes,Thomas Wurdinger,Thomas Wurdinger,Gerrit A. Meijer,D. Michiel Pegtel +13 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that posttranscriptional modifications, notably 3' end adenylation and uridylation, exert opposing effects that may contribute, at least in part, to direct ncRNA sorting into EVs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial cells require miR-214 to secrete exosomes that suppress senescence and induce angiogenesis in human and mouse endothelial cells
Bas W.M. van Balkom,Olivier G. de Jong,Michiel Smits,Jolanda Brummelman,Krista den Ouden,Petra de Bree,Monique A. J. van Eijndhoven,D. Michiel Pegtel,Willem Stoorvogel,Thomas Wurdinger,Marianne C. Verhaar +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that miR-214, an miRNA that controls endothelial cell function and angiogenesis, plays a dominant role in exosome-mediated signaling between endothelial cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exosomes: Fit to deliver small RNA.
Anoek Zomer,Tineke Vendrig,Erik S. Hopmans,Monique A. J. van Eijndhoven,Jaap M. Middeldorp,D. Michiel Pegtel +5 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that an intercellular (miRNA-based) mode of signal transmission may be well suited in controlling space-confined processes such as the initiation of immune responses in the secondary (peripheral) lymphoid tissues or in a tumor microenvironment.
Journal ArticleDOI
LMP1 association with CD63 in endosomes and secretion via exosomes limits constitutive NF‐κB activation
Frederik J. Verweij,Monique A. J. van Eijndhoven,Erik S. Hopmans,Tineke Vendrig,Thomas Wurdinger,Ellen Cahir-McFarland,Elliott Kieff,Dirk Geerts,Rik van der Kant,Jacques Neefjes,Jaap M. Middeldorp,D. Michiel Pegtel +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that endogenous LMP1 escapes degradation upon accumulation within intraluminal vesicles of multivesicular endosomes and secretion via exosomes, and CD63 is thus a critical mediator of L MP1 function in‐ and outside‐infected (tumour) cells.
