Treatment of severe acute graft-versus-host disease with third party haploidentical mesenchymal stem cells
Katarina Le Blanc,Ida Rasmusson,Berit Sundberg,Cecilia Götherström,Moustapha Hassan,Mehmet Uzunel,Olle Ringdén +6 more
TL;DR: It is postulate that mesenchymal stem cells have a potent immunosuppressive effect in vivo and are transplanted in a patient with severe treatment-resistant grade IV acute graft-versus-host disease of the gut and liver.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of fat cell turnover in humans
Kirsty L. Spalding,Erik Arner,Pål O. Westermark,Samuel Bernard,Bruce A. Buchholz,Olaf Bergmann,Lennart Blomqvist,Johan Hoffstedt,Erik Näslund,Tom Britton,Hernan Concha,Moustapha Hassan,Mikael Rydén,Jonas Frisén,Peter Arner +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that adipocyte number is a major determinant for the fat mass in adults, however, the number of fat cells stays constant in adulthood in lean and obese individuals, even after marked weight loss, indicating that thenumber of adipocytes is set during childhood and adolescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correction of X-linked chronic granulomatous disease by gene therapy, augmented by insertional activation of MDS1-EVI1, PRDM16 or SETBP1.
Marion Ott,Manfred Schmidt,Kerstin Schwarzwaelder,Stefan Stein,Ulrich Siler,Ulrike Koehl,Hanno Glimm,K. Kühlcke,Andrea Schilz,Hana Kunkel,Sonja Naundorf,Andrea Brinkmann,Annette Deichmann,Marlene Fischer,Claudia R. Ball,Ingo H. Pilz,Cynthia E. Dunbar,Yang Du,Nancy A. Jenkins,Neal G. Copeland,Ursula Lüthi,Moustapha Hassan,Adrian J. Thrasher,Dieter Hoelzer,Christof von Kalle,Reinhard Seger,Manuel Grez +26 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that gene therapy in combination with bone marrow conditioning can be successfully used to treat inherited diseases affecting the myeloid compartment such as CGD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fetal mesenchymal stem-cell engraftment in bone after in utero transplantation in a patient with severe osteogenesis imperfecta.
Katarina Le Blanc,Cecilia Götherström,Olle Ringdén,Moustapha Hassan,Robert C. McMahon,Edwin M. Horwitz,Göran Annerén,Ove Axelsson,Janice Nunn,Uwe Ewald,Solveig Nordén-Lindeberg,Monika Jansson,Ann Dalton,Eva Åström,Magnus Westgren +14 more
TL;DR: The authors’ findings show that allogeneic fetal MSC can engraft and differentiate into bone in a human fetus even when the recipient is immunocompetent and HLA-incompatible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of proteasome deubiquitinating activity as a new cancer therapy
Padraig D'Arcy,Slavica Brnjic,Maria Hägg Olofsson,Mårten Fryknäs,Kristina Lindsten,Michelandrea De Cesare,Paola Perego,Behnam Sadeghi,Moustapha Hassan,Rolf Larsson,Stig Linder +10 more
TL;DR: Treatment with b-AP15 inhibited tumor progression in four different in vivo solid tumor models and inhibited organ infiltration in an acute myeloid leukemia model, showing that the deubiquitinating activity of the 19S regulatory particle is a new anticancer drug target.
