A population-based, multifaceted strategy to implement antenatal corticosteroid treatment versus standard care for the reduction of neonatal mortality due to preterm birth in low-income and middle-income countries: the ACT cluster-randomised trial
Fernando Althabe,José M. Belizán,Elizabeth M. McClure,Jennifer Hemingway-Foday,Mabel Berrueta,Agustina Mazzoni,Alvaro Ciganda,Shivaprasad S. Goudar,Bhalachandra S. Kodkany,Niranjana S. Carlo,Angel Mwiche,Melody Chiwila,Albert Manasyan,Sayury Pineda,Sreelatha Meleth,Vanessa Thorsten,Kristen Stolka,Dennis Wallace,Marion Koso-Thomas,Alan H. Jobe,Pierre Buekens +46 more
TL;DR: Despite increased use of antenatal corticosteroids in low-birthweight infants in the intervention groups, neonatal mortality did not decrease in this group, and increased in the population overall, and the risk of maternal infection seems to have been increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Utilization of maternal health care services and their determinants in Karnataka State, India
Marianne Vidler,Umesh Ramadurg,Umesh Charantimath,Geetanjali Katageri,Chandrashekhar Karadiguddi,Diane Sawchuck,Rahat Qureshi,Shafik Dharamsi,Anjali M Joshi,Peter von Dadelszen,Richard J. Derman,Mrutyunjaya B Bellad,Shivaprasad S. Goudar,Ashalata Mallapur +13 more
TL;DR: Rural south Indian communities reported regular use of health care services during pregnancy and for delivery, and factors that influenced women’s care-seeking included their limited autonomy, poor access to and funding for transport for non-emergent conditions, perceived poor quality of health Care facilities, and the costs of care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ormeloxifene versus Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (MPA) in the Treatment of Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
TL;DR: Ormeloxifene is more effective as compared to MPA in reducing the blood loss in the treatment of DUB, and this was confirmed in a double blind randomized controlled trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
The CRADLE vital signs alert: qualitative evaluation of a novel device designed for use in pregnancy by healthcare workers in low-resource settings.
Hannah L. Nathan,Helena Boene,Khátia Munguambe,Khátia Munguambe,Esperança Sevene,Esperança Sevene,David Akeju,Olalekan O. TL;DR: The CRADLE Vital Signs Alert was well accepted by healthcare workers from a range of countries and levels of facility, including those with no previous vital signs measurement experience, and gave women and their families a better understanding of the importance of vital signs in pregnancy and during the postpartum period.
Journal ArticleDOI
The feasibility of community level interventions for pre-eclampsia in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa: a mixed-methods design
Asif Raza Khowaja,Asif Raza Khowaja,Rahat Qureshi,Diane Sawchuck,Olufemi T. Oladapo,Olalekan O. Adetoro,Elizabeth A. Orenuga,Mrutyunjaya B Bellad,Ashalata Mallapur,Umesh Charantimath,Esperança Sevene,Khátia Munguambe,Helena Boene,Marianne Vidler,Zulfiqar A Bhutta,Peter von Dadelszen +15 more
TL;DR: Feasibility assessments for community level interventions, particularly those involving task-shifting across diverse regions, require an appropriate theoretical framework and careful selection of research methods.
