A global strategy for road building
William F. Laurance,Gopalasamy Reuben Clements,Sean Sloan,Christine S. O’Connell,N. D. Mueller,Miriam Goosem,Oscar Venter,David Edwards,Ben Phalan,Andrew Balmford,Rodney van der Ree,Irene Burgues Arrea +11 more
TL;DR: This large-scale zoning plan seeks to limit the environmental costs of road expansion while maximizing its benefits for human development, by helping to increase agricultural production, which is an urgent priority given that global food demand could double by mid-century.
Journal ArticleDOI
An attainable global vision for conservation and human well-being
Heather Tallis,Peter L. Hawthorne,Stephen Polasky,Joseph P. Reid,Michael W. Beck,Michael W. Beck,Kate A. Brauman,Jeffrey M. Bielicki,Seth Binder,Matthew G. Burgess,E. S. Cassidy,Adam Thomas Clark,Joseph Fargione,Edward T. Game,Edward T. Game,James S. Gerber,Forest Isbell,Joseph M. Kiesecker,Robert I. McDonald,Marc Metian,Jennifer L. Molnar,N. D. Mueller,Christine S. O’Connell,Daniel Ovando,Max Troell,Max Troell,Timothy M. Boucher,Brian McPeek +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a global, spatially explicit, systems modeling approach to explore the possibility of meeting the demands of increased populations and economic growth in 2050 while simultaneously advancing multiple conservation goals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corrigendum: A global strategy for road building
William F. Laurance,Gopalasamy Reuben Clements,Sean Sloan,Christine S. O’Connell,N. D. Mueller,Miriam Goosem,Oscar Venter,David Edwards,Ben Phalan,Andrew Balmford,Rodney van der Ree,Irene Burgues Arrea +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the proportions of Earth's total land surface located within the "conserve", "agriculture", "conflict", and "low-tension" zones were estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI
A study of temporal effects of the model anti-androgen flutamide on components of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in adult fathead minnows.
Rebecca Milsk,Jenna E. Cavallin,Elizabeth J. Durhan,Kathleen M. Jensen,Michael D. Kahl,Elizabeth A. Makynen,Dalma Martinović Weigelt,N. D. Mueller,Anthony L. Schroeder,Daniel L. Villeneuve,Gerald T. Ankley +10 more
TL;DR: Overall, responses of the HPG axis in adult male and female fathead minnows exposed to flutamide were both dynamic and comparatively rapid during exposure and recovery, and have ramifications both for the development of short-term fish assays to detect endocrine-active chemicals, and the derivation of robust adverse outcome pathways for AR antagonists in fish.
