Journal Article
Long-term results of the Kumamoto Study on optimal diabetes control in type 2 diabetic patients.
TL;DR: Intensive glycemic control can delay the onset and progression of the early stages of diabetic microvascular complications in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of urinary 8-hydroxydeoxy-guanosine as a novel biomarker of macrovascular complications in type 2 diabetes
Takeshi Nishikawa,Takayuki Sasahara,Shinsuke Kiritoshi,Kazuhiro Sonoda,Takahumi Senokuchi,Tomoko Matsuo,Daisuke Kukidome,Nakayasu Wake,Takeshi Matsumura,Nobuhiro Miyamura,Michiharu Sakakida,Hideki Kishikawa,Eiichi Araki +12 more
TL;DR: Hyperglycemia independently increases 8-OHdG in patients with type 2 diabetes, and this biomarker is a useful biomarker of not only microvascular but also macrovascular complications in Patients withType 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cost-effectiveness of intensive insulin therapy for type 2 diabetes: a 10-year follow-up of the Kumamoto study.
Nakayasu Wake,Akinori Hisashige,Takafumi Katayama,Hideki Kishikawa,Yasuo Ohkubo,Masakazu Sakai,Eiichi Araki,Motoaki Shichiri +7 more
TL;DR: Economic evaluation of a randomized controlled trial on the prevention of diabetes complications in Japan shows that MIT is more beneficial than CIT in both cost and effectiveness, and is recommended for the treatment of type 2 diabetic patients who require insulin therapy as early as possible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide linkage analysis of type 2 diabetes mellitus reconfirms the susceptibility locus on 11p13-p12 in Japanese.
Hajime Nawata,Senji Shirasawa,Naoki Nakashima,Eiichi Araki,Jun Hashiguchi,Seibei Miyake,Teruaki Yamauchi,Kazuyuki Hamaguchi,Hironobu Yoshimatsu,Haruo Takeda,Hideo Fukushima,Takayuki Sasahara,Kohei Yamaguchi,Noriyuki Sonoda,Tomoko Sonoda,Masahiro Matsumoto,Yoshiya Tanaka,Hidekatsu Sugimoto,Hirotaka Tsubouchi,Toyoshi Inoguchi,Toshihiko Yanase,Nakayasu Wake,Kenziro Narazaki,Takashi Eto,Fumio Umeda,Mitsuhiro Nakazaki,Junko Ono,Takashi Asano,Yasuko Ito,Shoichi Akazawa,Iwaho Hazegawa,Nobuyuki Takasu,Moritsugu Shinohara,Takeshi Nishikawa,Seiho Nagafuchi,Toshimitsu Okeda,Katsumi Eguchi,Masanori Iwase,Mayuko Ishikawa,Masayuki Aoki,Naoto Keicho,Norihiro Kato,Kazuki Yasuda,Ken Yamamoto,Takehiko Sasazuki +44 more
TL;DR: Results taken together suggest that a susceptibility gene for type 2 diabetes mellitus in Japanese will reside in 11p13-p12, which was reported to be a susceptibility locus for Japanese type 2abetes mellitus with suggestive evidence of linkage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thyroxine-binding globulin variant (TBG-Kumamoto): identification of a point mutation and genotype analysis of its family.
Tetsuya Shirotani,Hideki Kishikawa,Nakayasu Wake,Nobuhiro Miyamura,Yasuyoshi Hashimoto,S. Motoyoshi,Kohei Yamaguchi,Motoaki Shichiri +7 more
TL;DR: A Japanese female patient with hyperthyroid state, whose lower TBG levels did not return to normal under the euthyroid state after treatment, is examined, and a single nucleotide substitution in the codon for the amino acid 363 of native TBG molecule was found, resulting in the replacement of proline by leucine.
