Michael J. Bentley,Colm Ó Cofaigh,John B. Anderson,Howard Conway,Bethan J. Davies,Alastair G C Graham,Claus-Dieter Hillenbrand,Dominic A. Hodgson,Stewart S. R. Jamieson,Robert D Larter,Andrew Mackintosh,James Smith,Elie Verleyen,Robert P. Ackert,Philip J. Bart,Sonja Berg,Daniel Brunstein,Miquel Canals,Eric A. Colhoun,Xavier Crosta,William A. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a series of timeslice maps for 20 ka, 15 ka, 10 ka and 5 ka, including grounding line position and ice sheet thickness changes, along with a clear assessment of levels of confidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Terrestrial and submarine evidence for the extent and timing of the Last Glacial Maximum and the onset of deglaciation on the maritime-Antarctic and sub-Antarctic islands
Dominic A. Hodgson,Dominic A. Hodgson,Alastair G C Graham,Stephen Roberts,Michael J. Bentley,Colm Ó Cofaigh,Elie Verleyen,Wim Vyverman,Vincent Jomelli,Vincent Favier,Daniel Brunstein,Deborah Verfaillie,Eric A. Colhoun,Krystyna M. Saunders,Patricia M. Selkirk,Andrew Mackintosh,David W. Hedding,Werner Nel,Kevin Hall,Matt S. McGlone,Nathalie Van der Putten,William A. Dickens,James Smith +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the literature found surprisingly few high quality chronological constraints on changing glacier extents on these timescales in the maritime and sub-Antarctic sector.
Journal ArticleDOI
Subantarctic flowering plants: pre‐glacial survivors or post‐glacial immigrants?
Nathalie Van der Putten,Nathalie Van der Putten,Cyriel Verbruggen,Ryszard Ochyra,Elie Verleyen,Yves Frenot +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess whether the present-day assemblage of subantarctic flowering plants is the result of a rapid post-last glacial maximum (LGM) colonization or whether sub-antarctica flowering plants survived on the islands in glacial refugia throughout the LGM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Holocene palaeoecology and climate history of South Georgia (sub-Antarctica) based on a macrofossil record of bryophytes and seeds
TL;DR: A detailed plant macrofossil analysis of a C-14 dated Holocene organic sequence from a sub-Antarctic island, South Georgia, was presented in this paper, where 31 bryophyte species and many principal species of the present-day angiosperm flora associated with bog communities were identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
The onset of deglaciation of Cumberland Bay and Stromness Bay, South Georgia
TL;DR: Carbon dating of basal peat deposits in Cumberland Bay and Stromness Bay and sediments from a lake in South Georgia indicates deglaciation at the very beginning of the Holocene before c. 9500 C-14 yr BP as mentioned in this paper.
