Carotenoid Metabolism in Plants

TL;DR: In this review, current knowledge of the genes and enzymes involved in carotenoid metabolism are summarized and recent progress in understanding the regulatory mechanisms underlying carOTenoid accumulation is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Uncharacterized Apocarotenoid-Derived Signal Generated in ζ-Carotene Desaturase Mutants Regulates Leaf Development and the Expression of Chloroplast and Nuclear Genes in Arabidopsis

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the leaf developmental phenotypes and gene expression alterations of zds/clb5/spc1/pde181 plants are rescued by inhibitors or mutations of phytoene desaturase, demonstrating that phy tofluene and/or ζ-carotene are substrates for an unidentified signaling molecule.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sensing and signaling of oxidative stress in chloroplasts by inactivation of the SAL1 phosphoadenosine phosphatase

TL;DR: The results indicate that in addition to sulfur metabolism, SAL1 orthologs have evolved secondary functions in oxidative stress sensing in the plant kingdom, and the plant protein has evolved enhanced redox sensitivity compared with its yeast ortholog.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of the Arabidopsis PIN6 auxin transporter in auxin homeostasis and auxin-mediated development

TL;DR: The data indicate that PIN6 regulates auxin homeostasis during plant development, and changes in auxin-regulated growth correlated with a reduction in total auxin transport as well as with an altered activity of DR5-GUS auxin response reporter.
