The Martini coarse-grained force field has been successfully used for simulating a wide range of (bio)molecular systems. Recent progress in our ability to test the model against fully atomistic force fields, however, has revealed some shortcomings. Most notable, phenylalanine and proline were too hydrophobic, and dimers formed by polar residues in apolar solvents did not bind strongly enough. Here, we reparametrize these residues either through reassignment of particle types or by introducing embedded charges. The new parameters are tested with respect to partitioning across a lipid bilayer, membrane binding of Wimley–White peptides, and dimerization free energy in solvents of different polarity. In addition, we improve some of the bonded terms in the Martini protein force field that lead to a more realistic length of α-helices and to improved numerical stability for polyalanine and glycine repeats. The new parameter set is denoted Martini version 2.2.

Improved Parameters for the Martini Coarse-Grained Protein Force Field

The Martini model, a coarse-grained force field for biomolecular simulations, has found a broad range of applications since its release a decade ago. Based on a building block principle, the model combines speed and versatility while maintaining chemical specificity. Here we review the current state of the model. We describe recent highlights as well as shortcomings, and our ideas on the further development of the model.

For simulations of membranes and membrane proteins, the generation of the lipid bilayer is a critical step in the setup of the system. Membranes comprising multiple components pose a particular challenge, because the relative abundances need to be controlled and the equilibration of the system may take several microseconds. Here we present a comprehensive method for building membrane containing systems, characterized by simplicity and versatility. The program uses preset, coarse-grain lipid templates to build the membrane, and also allows on-the-fly generation of simple lipid types by specifying the headgroup, linker, and lipid tails on the command line. The resulting models can be equilibrated, after which a relaxed atomistic model can be obtained by reverse transformation. Computational Lipidomics with insane: A Versatile Tool for Generating Custom Membranes for Molecular Simulations

The work of this paper is done within the context of European Project E! 9770 i-Light, which aims at developing intelligent systems based on smart luminaries for building monitoring. The work presented in this paper extends the work from i-Light project towards a smart guiding system for buildings. The system is based on the use of smart luminaries and drones. One of the main targets of such a system is medical care units. Use case scenarios include: give audio indications to potential users (patients, visitors, etc.), carrying relevant supplies to the desired location, etc. This paper will discuss the components of the system localization techniques applied within a building.

Smart technologies such as computers, smartphones, smart bracelets, smart medical devices can be used by medicinal organizations because of their enhanced usability, multiple uses, low costing, flexibility, mobility, reliability, and new capabilities. This encouraged health organizations to boost their demand for new healthcare technologies and enable users to multiple access medical services and improve the user experience. The current paper presents the implementation of an integrated system - MediCare system, which has the role of a medical social media system. To improve the health services in Iraq, we developed the MediCare system to take advantage of techniques like social-oriented networks, smartphone, wearable devices, medical devices. The MediCare system can be used on tablets and smartphones operating on the Android system through its Android App Interface. In addition, the MediCare web application can be used by devices like computers, smartphones, and tablets.

Database Security is a growing concern evidenced by an increase in the number of reported incidencesof loss of or unauthorized exposure to sensitive data. As the amount of data collected, retained and shared electronically expands, so does the need to understand database security.  Security models, developed for databases differ in many aspects because they focus on different features of the database security problem or because they make different assumptions about what constitutes a secure database. This paper explains the need for a database trigger and it role in enforcing the various database security challenges.

Implementing heuristic testing selection

These are the proceedings of the seventh edition of the Nederlandse Testdag (a.k.a. Dutch Testing Day), held on November 8, 2001 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The increase in the complexity of software and hardware systems was the predominant concern in the software design of the last decades. This increase is still going on today. and mastering this complexity is possible, only by investigating, discussing and evaluating methods and techniques for testing such systems. The Nederlandse Testdag serves as a forum in which researchers from the industry and the academia discuss and present their latest experiences and theories in the area of testing. The initiative for organising the Nederlandse Testdag is, and has always been, the result of the combined efforts of the Dutch academia and the industry. The Nederlandse Testdag is an annual event which was first held in 1995. This year's edition again consists of one invited presentation by Jens Grabowski, on ITCN-3. and six regular presentations, both from the academia and from the industry. The presentations capture a broad field of the entire testing spectrum. In the presentation by Martin Gijsen (CMG), test automation for Graphical User Interface (GUI), dedicated and embedded systems according to the TestFrame methodology is explained. Klaas Mateboer (Collis) presents the test-tool Conclusion. Rene de Vries (University of Twente) reports on specification testing in practice and illustrates this by means of an example. In the presentation by Loe Feijs (Eindhoven University of Technology), testing is related to game-theory. Marcel Verhoef (Chess) and Bertil Oving (NLR) present their experiences using real-time simulation, UML and VDM to obtain more reliable spacecraft avionics. Finally, Ben van Buitenen (Baan), provides an insight in service pack testing: how to efficiently test customised software components and packages. The organisation of the Nederlandse Testdag is grateful for the sponsorship it received from the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Eindhoven Embedded Systems Institute, and the financial support from Dutch Research School IPA.
