TL;DR: ElectricOctupole transition strengths are determined (a direct measure of octupole correlations) for short-lived isotopes of radon and radium to constrain suitable candidates for experimental studies of atomic electric-dipole moments that might reveal extensions to the standard model.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: A new type of asymmetric fission, not caused by large shell effects related to fragment magic proton and neutron numbers, as observed in the actinide region, is studied by using resonant laser ionization with subsequent mass separation at ISOLDE (CERN).

TL;DR: The Miniball germanium detector array has been operational at the REX (Radioactive ion beam EXperiment) post accelerator at the Isotope Separator On-Line facility ISOLDE at CERN since 2001.

B. A. Marsh,T. Day Goodacre,T. Day Goodacre,S. Sels,Yusuke Tsunoda,B. Andel,Andrei Andreyev,Andrei Andreyev,N. A. Althubiti,Dinko Atanasov,A. E. Barzakh,J. Veinhard,E. Verstraelen,A. Welker,Klaus Wendt,Frank Wienholtz,Robert Wolf,A. Zadvornaya,Kai Zuber +50 more
TL;DR: In this article, the shape-staggering in the even-mass lead isotopes and odd-mass mercury isotopes was investigated and it was concluded that this phenomenon results from the interplay between monopole and quadrupole interactions driving a quantum phase transition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear charge radii of neutron-deficient lead isotopes beyond N = 104 midshell investigated by in-source laser spectroscopy.
H. De Witte,A. N. Andreyev,N. Barré,M. Bender,Thomas Elias Cocolios,S. Dean,D. V. Fedorov,V. N. Fedoseyev,L. M. Fraile,S. Franchoo,V. Hellemans,Paul-Henri Heenen,Kristiaan Heyde,G. Van Duppen,Yu. M. Volkov +29 more
TL;DR: The shape of exotic even-mass (182-190)Pb isotopes was probed by measurement of optical isotope shifts providing mean square charge radii (delta(r(2))), and the data support the predominantly spherical shape of the ground state of the proton-magic Z=82 lead isotopes near neutron midshell.
