Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of a real-time PCR assay for detection and quantification of bacterial DNA directly in blood of preterm neonates with suspected late-onset sepsis.
Marre van den Brand,Frank A. M. van den Dungen,Martine P. Bos,Mirjam M. van Weissenbruch,A. Marceline van Furth,Annemieke de Lange,Anna Rubenjan,Remco P. H. Peters,Remco P. H. Peters,Paul H. M. Savelkoul,Paul H. M. Savelkoul +10 more
TL;DR: Multiplex PCR provides a powerful assay to enhance rapid identification of the causative pathogen in late-onset sepsis and the value of bacterial DNA load (BDL) determination as a measure of infection severity is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism for Differentiation of Avian Mycoplasma Species
Yang Hong,Maricarmen García,Sharon Levisohn,Inna Lysnyansky,V. A. Leiting,Paul H. M. Savelkoul,Stanley H. Kleven +6 more
TL;DR: Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was used for typing avian mycoplasma species into eight distinct groups, with each representing a different species.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Resolution Typing by Whole Genome Mapping Enables Discrimination of LA-MRSA (CC398) Strains and Identification of Transmission Events
Thijs Bosch,Erwin Verkade,Martijn van Luit,Bruno Pot,Paul Vauterin,Ronald Burggrave,Paul H. M. Savelkoul,Paul H. M. Savelkoul,Jan Kluytmans,Jan Kluytmans,Leo M. Schouls +10 more
TL;DR: Though PFGE seems to be suitable for molecular typing of LA-MRSA, WGM provides a much higher discriminatory power than spa-typing or MLVA, and whole genome mapping can provide a comparison with other maps within 2 days after the bacterial culture is received, making it suitable to investigate transmission events and outbreaks caused by LA- MRSA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Can the Hydroxyapatite-Coated Skin-Penetrating Abutment for Bone Conduction Hearing Implants Integrate with the Surrounding Skin?
TL;DR: Investigating, in vivo, if skin integration is achievable in patients using a HA-coated abutment in conjunction with soft tissue preservation surgery found proof-of-principle evidence that the HA- Coated Abutment can achieve integration with the surrounding skin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of Helicobacter species DNA by quantitative PCR in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy individuals and of patients with inflammatory bowel disease
Xander W. Huijsdens,Ronald K. Linskens,José Koppes,Yuan Lan Tang,Stephan G. M. Meuwissen,Christina M. J. E. Vandenbroucke-Grauls,Paul H. M. Savelkoul +6 more
TL;DR: This study suggests that Helicobacter species, other than H. pylori, are not present in the normal human gastrointestinal flora and the results do not support a role of Helicobacteria species in IBD.
