Journal ArticleDOI
The Bacillus subtilis spore coat protein interaction network.
Hosan Kim,Marlene Hahn,Paul P. Grabowski,Derrell C. McPherson,Michele M. Otte,Rong Wang,Caitlin C. Ferguson,Patrick Eichenberger,Patrick Eichenberger,Adam Driks +9 more
TL;DR: This work uses cell biological and protein biochemical approaches to identify novel coat proteins in Bacillus subtilis and describes the network of their interactions, in order to understand coat assembly and the molecular basis of its protective functions and mechanical properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Distance-Weighted Interaction Map Reveals a Previously Uncharacterized Layer of the Bacillus subtilis Spore Coat
Peter T. McKenney,Adam Driks,Haig A. Eskandarian,Paul P. Grabowski,Jonathan M. Guberman,Katherine H. Wang,Zemer Gitai,Patrick Eichenberger +7 more
TL;DR: The spore coat comprises at least four spatially distinct layers, including a previously uncharacterized glycoprotein outermost layer that is named the spore crust, and crust assembly depends on proteins the authors predicted to localize to the crust.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic mechanisms of climate adaptation in polyploid bioenergy switchgrass.
John T. Lovell,Alice MacQueen,Sujan Mamidi,Jason Bonnette,Jerry Jenkins,Joseph D. Napier,Avinash Sreedasyam,Adam Healey,Adam M. Session,Adam M. Session,Shengqiang Shu,Kerrie Barry,Stacy A. Bonos,Lori Beth Boston,Christopher Daum,Shweta Deshpande,Aren Ewing,Paul P. Grabowski,Taslima Haque,Melanie Harrison,Jiming Jiang,Dave Kudrna,Anna Lipzen,Thomas H. Rokhsar,Jane Grimwood,Thomas E. Juenger,Jeremy Schmutz +71 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the assembly and annotation of the large and complex genome of the polyploid bioenergy crop switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) and investigate patterns of climate adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adaptations between ecotypes and along environmental gradients in Panicum virgatum
David B. Lowry,Katherine D. Behrman,Paul P. Grabowski,Geoffrey P. Morris,James R. Kiniry,Thomas E. Juenger +5 more
TL;DR: The identification of genetic loci involved in different types of adaptations will help to understand the evolutionary mechanisms of diversification within P. virgatum and provide useful information for the breeding of high-yielding cultivars for different ecoregions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The coat morphogenetic protein SpoVID is necessary for spore encasement in Bacillus subtilis.
Katherine H. Wang,Anabela Isidro,Lia Domingues,Haig A. Eskandarian,Peter T. McKenney,Kevin Drew,Kevin Drew,Paul P. Grabowski,Ming Hsiu Chua,Samantha N. Barry,Michelle Guan,Richard Bonneau,Richard Bonneau,Adriano O. Henriques,Patrick Eichenberger +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that in spoVID mutant cells, most coat proteins assembled into a cap at one side of the developing spore but failed to migrate around and encase it, and that SpoIVA directly interacts with SpoVID.
