TL;DR: There were significant advantages to LABA treatment compared to placebo for a variety of measurements of airway calibre including morning peak expiratory flow (PEF), evening PEF and FEV1, and there are potential safety issues which call into question the safety of LABA, particularly in those asthmatics who are not taking ICS.

Potentially pathogenic bacteria cultured from the sputum of stable asthmatics are associated with increased 8-isoprostane and airway neutrophilia.

TL;DR: In this article, a significant load of potentially pathogenic bacteria (> 10(6) cfu/mL) was cultured from the sputum of 17 (15%) subjects with stable asthma and was associated with higher total cell counts, proportion and number of neutrophils.
