Innate immune activation in neutrophilic asthma and bronchiectasis
Jodie L. Simpson,Terry V. Grissell,Jeroen Douwes,Rodney J. Scott,Michael Boyle,Peter G. Gibson +5 more
TL;DR: There is evidence of activation of the innate immune system in asthma which results in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and may contribute to the pathogenesis of neutrophilic asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between {beta}2-adrenoceptor polymorphisms and asthma: a HuGE review.
Ammarin Thakkinstian,Mark McEvoy,Cosetta Minelli,Peter G. Gibson,Bob Hancox,David L. Duffy,John F. Thompson,Ian P. Hall,Joel D. Kaufman,Ting Fan Leung,Peter Joseph Benedict Helms,Hakon Hakonarson,Eva Halpi,Ruth Navon,John Attia +14 more
TL;DR: Haplotype analysis suggests that there may be an interaction between the two sites, with a lower risk of asthma associated with the Glu27 allele (compared with Gln27), and that this risk is modified by the allele at position 16.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asthma exacerbations during pregnancy: incidence and association with adverse pregnancy outcomes
TL;DR: No significant associations between exacerbations during pregnancy and preterm delivery or pre-eclampsia were identified, and inhaled corticosteroid use may reduce the risk of exacerbation during pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Limited (information only) patient education programs for adults with asthma.
Peter G. Gibson,Heather Powell,Amanda Wilson,Michael J. Hensley,Michael J. Abramson,Adrian Bauman,E. Haydn Walters,Jennifer J. L. Roberts +7 more
TL;DR: Use of limited asthma education as it has been practiced does not appear to improve health outcomes in adults with asthma, however the use of information in the emergency department may be effective, but this needs to be confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers of lipid peroxidation, airway inflammation and asthma
TL;DR: The emergence of isoprostanes (specifically 8‐isoprostaglandin F2α) as reliable, in vivo markers of lipid peroxidation provides an appropriate tool for studying oxidative stress, and the development of techniques to study induced sputum and breath condensate enables the site of oxidative damage to be closely assessed.
