Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis.

Graphene’s success has shown that it is possible to create stable, single and few-atom-thick layers of van der Waals materials, and also that these materials can exhibit fascinating and technologically useful properties. Here we review the state-of-the-art of 2D materials beyond graphene. Initially, we will outline the different chemical classes of 2D materials and discuss the various strategies to prepare single-layer, few-layer, and multilayer assembly materials in solution, on substrates, and on the wafer scale. Additionally, we present an experimental guide for identifying and characterizing single-layer-thick materials, as well as outlining emerging techniques that yield both local and global information. We describe the differences that occur in the electronic structure between the bulk and the single layer and discuss various methods of tuning their electronic properties by manipulating the surface. Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities in Two-Dimensional Materials Beyond Graphene

Thymic epithelial cells (TECs) critically participate in T cell maturation and selection for the establishment of immunity to foreign antigens and immune tolerance to self-antigens of T cells. It is well known that many intracellular and extracellular molecules elegantly have mastered the development of medullary TECs (mTECs) and cortical TECs (cTECs). However, the role played by NTP-dependent helicase proteins in TEC development is currently unclear. Herein, we created mice with a TEC-specific DExD/H-box helicase 9 (Dhx9) deletion (Dhx9 cKO) to study the involvement of Dhx9 in TEC differentiation and function. We found that a Dhx9 deficiency in TECs caused a significant decreased cell number of TECs, including mTECs and thymic tuft cells, accompanied by accelerated mTEC maturation but no detectable effect on cTECs. Dhx9-deleted mTECs transcriptionally expressed poor tissue-restricted antigen profiles compared with WT mTECs. Importantly, Dhx9 cKO mice displayed an impaired thymopoiesis, poor thymic T cell output, and they suffered from spontaneous autoimmune disorders. RNA-seq analysis showed that the Dhx9 deficiency caused an upregulated DNA damage response pathway and Gadd45, Cdkn1a, Cdc25, Wee1, and Myt1 expression to induce cell cycle arrest in mTECs. In contrast, the p53-dependent upregulated RANK-NF-κB pathway axis accelerated the maturation of mTECs. Our results collectively indicated that Dhx9, a cytosolic nuclear sensor recognizing viral DNA or RNA, played an important role in mTEC development and function in mice.

Cytosolic Nuclear Sensor Dhx9 Controls Medullary Thymic Epithelial Cell Differentiation by p53-Mediated Pathways

The high frequency transducer usually has a narrow working band which limits the underwater target detection performance of high-frequency sonar. Matching layer is an important technology to expand the working band. Due to the complex manufacturing process, previous researches are mainly based on simulation results. In this study, a series of transducer with matching layer were made, and the admittance were measured both in air and in water, The influences of matching layer thickness on the performance of transducer were obtained, which is useful for the optimal design of high frequency transducer. Under the optimal matching layer thickness, the bandwidth of the transducer exceeded 60kHz with the center frequency of 115kHz.

Experimental optimization design of matching layer for high frequency transducer

This study aims to clarify molecular mechanisms and tumor-associated functions of LINC00312 in lung cancer. GEO database was used to acquire lung cancer-related expression microarrays. Then, relevant databases were applied to predict the downstream miRNA for LINC00312 and the target mRNA for the potential miRNA, with their associations deeply confirmed through dual-luciferase and RIP assays. The expression levels of epithelial-mesenchymal transition -related proteins (N-cadherin, Vimentin, MMP-2, and MMP-9) were examined by Western blot. The proliferation, migration, and invasion were evaluated through in vitro experiments including CCK-8 and Transwell assays and further validated by nude mouse xenograft tumor experiment. LINC00312, serving as a tumor suppressor, was down-regulated in lung cancer cells. RIP assay proved that miR-3175 bound LINC00312 and SEMA6A. The dual-luciferase assay showed that miR-3175 specifically targeted SEMA6A, suppressing the expression of SEMA6A. Overexpressing LINC00312 remarkably inhibited the binding between miR-3175 and SEMA6A. Overexpressing miR-3175 or silencing SEMA6A could hamper the effects of LINC00312 on lung cancer cells. LINC00312 inhibits lung cancer occurrence and progression via the miR-3175/SEMA6A axis.
