Cardiomyocyte oxidants production may signal to T. cruzi intracellular development
Patrícia Pereira Dias,Rhayanne Figueiredo Capila,Natália Fernanda do Couto,Damián Estrada,Fernanda Ramos Gadelha,Rafael Radi,Lucía Piacenza,Luciana O. Andrade +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that JG presents a higher intracellular multiplication rate when compared to Col1.7G2, and that upon infection cardiomyocytes in culture may increase the production of oxidative species and its levels are higher in cultures infected with JG, which expresses lower levels of antioxidant enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Worsening of memory deficit induced by energy-dense diet in a rat model of early-Alzheimer's disease is associated to neurotoxic Aβ species and independent of neuroinflammation.
Pamela V. Martino Adami,Pablo Galeano,ML Wallinger,Celia Quijano,Alejandro Rabossi,Eleonora Samanta Pagano,Natividad Olivar,Carlos F. Reyes Toso,Daniel P. Cardinali,Luis I. Brusco,Sonia Do Carmo,Rafael Radi,Goar Gevorkian,Eduardo M. Castaño,A. Claudio Cuello,Laura Morelli +15 more
TL;DR: The concept that in the presence of early Aβ pathology, diet-induced metabolic dysfunctions may contribute as a "second hit" to impair cognition is supported, which reinforces the implementation of prophylactic interventions in individuals at risk for AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
HPLC separation of human serum albumin isoforms based on their isoelectric points.
Lucía Turell,Horacio Botti,Lucía Bonilla,Maria J. Torres,Francisco J. Schopfer,Bruce A. Freeman,Larissa Armas,Alejandro Ricciardi,Beatriz Alvarez,Rafael Radi +9 more
TL;DR: An external pH gradient chromatofocusing procedure is developed that allows the analysis of the oxidation status of HSA in human plasma and biopharmaceutical products based on the different apparent isoelectric points and chemical properties of the redox isoforms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiomyocyte diffusible redox mediators control Trypanosoma cruzi infection: role of parasite mitochondrial iron superoxide dismutase.
Damián Estrada,Gabriela Specker,Alejandra Martínez,Patrícia Pereira Dias,Barbara Hissa,Luciana O. Andrade,Rafael Radi,Lucía Piacenza +7 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that cardiomyocyte-derived diffusible mediators are able to control intracellular amastigote proliferation by triggering T. cruzi PCD and that parasite Fe-SODA tilts the process toward survival as part of an antioxidant-based immune evasion mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peroxynitrite affects Ca2+ transport in Trypanosoma cruzi.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the disruption of calcium homeostasis by peroxynitrite may contribute to the observed cytotoxic effects of macrophages against T. cruzi.
