TL;DR: The Gaia-ESO Public Spectroscopic Survey has begun and will obtain high quality spectroscopy of some 100000 Milky Way stars, in the field and in open clusters, down to magnitude 19, systematically.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is there a role for carbohydrate restriction in the treatment and prevention of cancer
TL;DR: The possible beneficial effects of low CHO diets on cancer prevention and treatment are addressed, with emphasis on the role of insulin and IGF1 signaling in tumorigenesis as well as altered dietary needs of cancer patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beneficial effects of ketogenic diets for cancer patients: a realist review with focus on evidence and confirmation
TL;DR: The probability of achieving an anti-tumor effect seems greater than that of causing serious side effects when offering KDs to cancer patients, and a probabilistic argument shows that the available data strengthen the belief in the anti-disease effect hypothesis at least for some individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SBRT database initiative of the German Society for Radiation Oncology (DEGRO): patterns of care and outcome analysis of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for liver oligometastases in 474 patients with 623 metastases
N. Andratschke,H. Alheid,Michael Allgäuer,Gerhild Becker,Oliver Blanck,Judit Boda-Heggemann,Thomas B. Brunner,Marciana-Nona Duma,Sabine Gerum,Matthias Guckenberger,Guido Hildebrandt,Rainer J. Klement,V. Lewitzki,C. Ostheimer,Alexandros Papachristofilou,Cordula Petersen,Thomas Schneider,Robert Semrau,Stefan Wachter,Daniel Habermehl +19 more
TL;DR: After an initial learning curve with regards to total cumulative doses, consistently high biologically effective doses have been employed translating into high local tumor control at 1 and 2 years and overall survival is mainly influenced by histology and metastatic tumor burden.
Journal ArticleDOI
Applicability of the linear-quadratic formalism for modeling local tumor control probability in high dose per fraction stereotactic body radiotherapy for early stage non-small cell lung cancer.
Matthias Guckenberger,Rainer J. Klement,Michael Allgäuer,Steffen Appold,Karin Dieckmann,Iris Ernst,Ute Ganswindt,Richard Holy,Ursula Nestle,Meinhard Nevinny-Stickel,Sabine Semrau,Florian Sterzing,Andrea Wittig,Nicolaus Andratschke,Michael Flentje +14 more
TL;DR: The data suggest accurate modeling of local tumor control in fractionated SBRT for stage I NSCLC with the traditional LQ formalism.
