A global observational analysis to understand changes in air quality during exceptionally low anthropogenic emission conditions.

Ranjeet S. Sokhi, +96 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effects of the differences in both emissions and regional and local meteorology in 2020 compared with the period 2015-2019, by adopting a globally consistent approach, this comprehensive observational analysis focuses on changes in air quality in and around cities across the globe for the following air pollutants PM2.5, PM10, PMC (coarse fraction of PM), NO2, SO2, NOx, CO, O3 and the total gaseous oxidant (OX ǫ) during the COVID-19 pandemic period of exceptionally
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of noise pollution in and around a sensitive zone in North India and its non-auditory impacts.

TL;DR: The non-auditory effects studied in the current work add to the risk factors associated with non communicable diseases and there is need to address the issue of noise pollution and associated health risks specially for vulnerable population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Post-monsoon air quality degradation across Northern India: assessing the impact of policy-related shifts in timing and amount of crop residue burnt

TL;DR: In this article, the authors combine air quality modelling of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) over IGP cities, with meteorology, fire and smoke emissions data to directly test this hypothesis, and find that post-monsoon IGP air quality is far more sensitive to meteorology and the amount of residue burned in the fields of NW India than to the timing shifts in residue burning.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of groundwater pollution by landfills in India using leachate pollution index and estimation of error

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the leachate pollution index (LPI) of Indian landfills by calculating the physico-chemical characteristics of landfill leachates from Chandigarh, SAS Nagar and Panchkula cities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of sol–gel technique for preparation of nanosilica from coal powered thermal power plant fly ash

TL;DR: In this paper, fly ash was added into 2N Sodium hydroxide solution, and resulting suspension was autoclaved for 120 min duration at 100˚°C, and a white cloudy gel-like precipitate of silica was formed which was filtered and washed several times to remove impurities of Na, K, and chloride salts.
