The Importance of Biodiversity E-infrastructures for Megadiverse Countries
Dora Ann Lange Canhos,Mariane S. Sousa-Baena,Sidnei de Souza,Leonor Costa Maia,João Renato Stehmann,Vanderlei Perez Canhos,Renato De Giovanni,Maria Beatriz Machado Bonacelli,W. Los,A. Townsend Peterson +9 more
TL;DR: The importance of e-infrastructures of public interest and the lack of long-term funding policies are discussed, and the example of Brazil’s speciesLink network, an e-Infrastructure that provides free and open access to biodiversity primary data and associated tools are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Bari Manifesto: An interoperability framework for essential biodiversity variables
Alex Hardisty,William K. Michener,Donat Agosti,Enrique Alonso García,Lucy Bastin,Lee Belbin,Anne Bowser,Pier Luigi Buttigieg,Dora Ann Lange Canhos,Willi Egloff,Renato De Giovanni,Rui Figueira,Quentin Groom,Robert P. TL;DR: Ten principles for the current best practice in EBV-focused biodiversity informatics are encapsulated as ‘The Bari Manifesto’, serving as implementation guidelines for data and research infrastructure providers to support the emerging EBV operational framework based on trans-national and cross-infrastructure scientific workflows.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vos,Rutger A. Vos,Alan Williams,Pelin Yilmaz +55 more
TL;DR: This work shows an operational, scalable and flexible Internet-based virtual laboratory to meet new demands for data processing and analysis in biodiversity science and ecology, and successfully integrated existing and popular tools and practices from different scientific disciplines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping present and future potential distribution patterns for a meso-grazer guild in the Baltic Sea
TL;DR: Climate-induced changes resulted in a gain of suitable habitats for F. vesiculosus,I.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Real Task of Selecting Records for Ecological Niche Modelling
TL;DR: A set of automatic procedures that can be used for a prior selection of records for ENM, analyzing records for 135 species of Passifloraceae that natively occur in Brazil, show the importance of using data quality filters and further developing ENM presence-only methods that can work with a low number of records per species.
