Three-dimensional ultra-broadband integrated tapered mode multiplexers
TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional tapered mode-selective coupler in a photonic chip is reported. But the authors focus on the performance of the three-core coupler, which enables the multiplexing of the LP01, LP and LP spatial modes of a multimode waveguide across an extremely wide bandwidth exceeding 400nm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Haul Transmission Over Few-Mode Fibers With Space-Division Multiplexing
Georg Rademacher,Roland Ryf,Nicolas K. Fontaine,Haoshuo Chen,Rene-Jean Essiambre,Benjamin J. Puttnam,Ruben S. Luis,Yoshinari Awaji,Naoya Wada,Simon Gross,Nicolas Riesen,Michael J. Withford,Yi Sun,Robert Lingle +13 more
TL;DR: The potential of using few-mode fiber-based SDM systems for long-haul transmission is demonstrated and mode-dependent loss poses the major limitation in the analyzed transmission system, masking most intermodal nonlinear interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Femtosecond direct-written integrated mode couplers.
TL;DR: Three-dimensional integrated mode couplers operating in the C-band are designed and fabrication and shown to allow for the multiplexing of the LP11a and LP11b spatial modes of an optical fiber, respectively, with excellent mode extinction ratios.
Journal ArticleDOI
Starlight demonstration of the Dragonfly instrument: an integrated photonic pupil-remapping interferometer for high-contrast imaging
Nemanja Jovanovic,Nemanja Jovanovic,Peter G. Tuthill,Peter G. Tuthill,Barnaby Norris,Simon Gross,Simon Gross,Paul Stewart,Ned Charles,Sylvestre Lacour,Martin Ams,Martin Ams,Jon Lawrence,Jon Lawrence,Andrew Lehmann,C. Niel,James Robertson,Graham D. Marshall,Michael J. Ireland,Michael J. Ireland,Alexander Fuerbach,Alexander Fuerbach,Michael J. Withford,Michael J. Withford +23 more
TL;DR: The integrated pupil-remapping interferometer as mentioned in this paper was proposed for the detection of young faint companions in the nearest star-forming regions by using a photonically enhanced interferometry.

Nemanja Jovanovic,Nemanja Jovanovic,Peter G. Tuthill,Peter G. Tuthill,Barnaby Norris,Simon Gross,Simon Gross,Paul Stewart,Ned Charles,Sylvestre Lacour,Martin Ams,Martin Ams,Jon Lawrence,Jon Lawrence,Andrew Lehmann,C. Niel,James Robertson,Graham D. Marshall,Michael J. Ireland,Michael J. Ireland,Alexander Fuerbach,Alexander Fuerbach,Michael J. Withford,Michael J. Withford +23 more
TL;DR: The design, construction and commissioning of a new high-contrast imager, the integrated pupil-remapping interferometer, an instrument expected to find application in the detection of young faint companions in the nearest star-forming regions and the first successful on-sky experiments at the 3.9-m Anglo-Australian Telescope are reported.
