Journal ArticleDOI
Femtosecond laser written arrayed waveguide gratings with integrated photonic lanterns
TL;DR: In this article, the first functional arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) were fabricated using the femtosecond laser direct-write technique, which is a maskless alternative to lithography enabling design flexibility and rapid prototyping.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Precision single mode fibre integral field spectroscopy with the RHEA spectrograph
Adam D. Rains,Michael J. Ireland,Nemanja Jovanovic,Tobias Feger,Joao Bento,Christian Schwab,David W. Coutts,Olivier Guyon,Alexander Arriola,Simon Gross +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for the detection of a single photon in a set of images of the Earth's magnetic field using the AU-120103751 data set.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Efficiently feeding single-mode fiber photonic spectrographs with an extreme adaptive optics system: on-sky characterization and preliminary spectroscopy
Nemanja Jovanovic,Nick Cvetojevic,Christian Schwab,Barnaby Norris,Julien Lozi,Simon Gross,Christopher H. Betters,Garima Singh,Olivier Guyon,F. Martinache,D. Doughty,Peter G. Tuthill +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an efficient single-mode fiber feed behind an extreme adaptive optics system (SCExAO) is presented for photonic-based spectrographs with high-order wavefront correction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconfigurable SDM Switching Using Novel Silicon Photonic Integrated Circuit
Yunhong Ding,Valerija Kamchevska,Kjeld Dalgaard,Feihong Ye,Rameez Asif,Simon Gross,Michael J. Withford,Michael Galili,Toshio Morioka,Leif Katsuo Oxenløwe +9 more
TL;DR: Reconfigurable space-division multiplexing switching using silicon photonic integrated circuit, which is fabricated on a novel silicon-on-insulator platform with buried Al mirror, is demonstrated successfully and can be easily upgraded to reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer capable of switching several multicore fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-performance 3D waveguide architecture for astronomical pupil-remapping interferometry.
Barnaby Norris,Nick Cvetojevic,Simon Gross,Nemanja Jovanovic,Paul Stewart,Ned Charles,Jon Lawrence,Michael J. Withford,Peter G. Tuthill +8 more
TL;DR: This new generation of photonic pupil-remapping devices which build upon the Dragonfly instrument, a high contrast waveguide-based interferometer overcomes problems caused by interference from unguided light and low throughput, allowing a previously inaccessible part of the star to planet contrast-separation parameter space to be explored.
