Journal ArticleDOI
β-Thalassemia Distribution in the Old World: an Ancient Disease Seen from a Historical Standpoint.
Vincenzo De Sanctis,Christos Kattamis,Duran Canatan,Ashraf T Soliman,Heba Elsedfy,Mehran Karimi,Shahina Daar,Yasser Wali,Mohamed A. Yassin,Nada Soliman,Praveen Sobti,Soad K. Al Jaouni,Mohamed El Kholy,Bernadette Fiscina,Michael Angastiniotis +14 more
TL;DR: The wide spectrum of β-thalassemia mutations could well be explained by looking at its geographical distribution, the history of malaria, wars, invasions, mass migrations, consanguinity and settlements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic Analysis of Various Date Palm Fruit (Phoenix dactylifera L.) Cultivars from Saudi Arabia to Assess Their Nutritional Quality
Ismail Hamad,Hamada AbdElgawad,Soad K. Al Jaouni,Gaurav Zinta,Han Asard,Sherif T. S. Hassan,Momtaz M. Hegab,Nashwa Hagagy,Samy Selim +8 more
TL;DR: The results showed that the date extracts from different cultivars have different free radical scavenging and anti-lipid peroxidation activities, and different cultivARS have different chemical composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, and Antiulcer Potential of Manuka Honey against Gastric Ulcer in Rats.
Saad B. Almasaudi,Nagla A. El-Shitany,Aymn T. Abbas,Umama A. Abdel-dayem,Soad S. Ali,Soad K. Al Jaouni,Steve Harakeh +6 more
TL;DR: Manuka honey significantly decreased the ulcer index, completely protected the mucosa from lesions, and preserved gastric mucosal glycoprotein levels, and likely exerted its antiulcer, effect by keeping enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants as well as inflammatory cytokines in a reduced form.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thymoquinone Defeats Diabetes-Induced Testicular Damage in Rats Targeting Antioxidant, Inflammatory and Aromatase Expression.
Mustafa S. Atta,Essam A. Almadaly,Ali H. El-Far,Rasha M. Saleh,Doaa H. Assar,Soad K. Al Jaouni,Shaker A. Mousa +6 more
TL;DR: TQ treatment exerted a protective effect against reproductive dysfunction induced by diabetes not only through its powerful antioxidant and hypoglycemic effects but also through its downregulation of testicular iNOS and NF-κB along with upregulation of aromatase expression levels in diabetic rats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated CO2 induces a global metabolic change in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) and peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) and improves their biological activity.
Soad K. Al Jaouni,Ahmed M. Saleh,Ahmed M. Saleh,Mohammed A. M. Wadaan,Wael N. Hozzein,Samy Selim,Hamada AbdElgawad,Hamada AbdElgawad +7 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, eCO2 caused enhancement in antioxidant, antiprotozoal, anti-bacterial and anticancer activities in both plants, which was consequent with improvement in the levels of antioxidant metabolites such as glutathione, ascorbate and flavonoids.
