Scalable and robust SARS-CoV-2 testing in an academic center.

TL;DR: A roadmap is provided to show how a European research institute can be repurposed in the midst of this crisis, in collaboration with partner hospitals and an established diagnostic laboratory, harnessing existing expertise in virus handling, robotics, molecular testing and informatics to derive a rapid, high-throughput diagnostic testing pipeline for detecting SARS-CoV-2 in individuals with suspected COVID-19.

Citizen science, cells and CNNs – deep learning for automatic segmentation of the nuclear envelope in electron microscopy data, trained with volunteer segmentations

TL;DR: A novel citizen science project, Etch a Cell, is developed to enable volunteers to manually segment the nuclear envelope of HeLa cells imaged with Serial Blockface SEM, and it is demonstrated that data produced exclusively by volunteers can be used to train a highly accurate machine learning algorithm for automatic segmentation of thenuclear envelope.
