TL;DR: An overview of the principles, recommendations and standards in the guidelines for quality assurance in CRC screening and diagnosis are presented in journal format in an open-access Supplement of Endoscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic accuracy of faecal occult blood tests used in screening for colorectal cancer: a systematic review
Jane Burch,K Soares-Weiser,D J B St John,Steven Duffy,Steve Smith,Jos Kleijnen,Marie Westwood +6 more
TL;DR: Investigating the accuracy of guaiac and immunochemical faecal occult blood tests (FOBTs) for the detection of colorectal cancer in an average-risk screening population found Immudia HemSp appeared to be the most accurate immunochemical FOBT, however, there was no clear evidence to suggest whether Guaiac or immunochemicalFOBTs performed better, either from direct or indirect comparisons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased uptake and improved outcomes of bowel cancer screening with a faecal immunochemical test: results from a pilot study within the national screening programme in England
Sue Moss,Christopher Mathews,T J Day,Steve Smith,HE Seaman,Julia Snowball,Stephen P Halloran +6 more
TL;DR: High positivity rates, particularly in men and previous non-respondents, challenge the available colonoscopy resource, but improvements in neoplasia detection are still achievable within this limited resource.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of evidence-based strategies to reduce the socioeconomic gradient of uptake in the English NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (ASCEND): four cluster-randomised controlled trials
Jane Wardle,Christian von Wagner,Ines Kralj-Hans,Stephen P Halloran,Samuel G. Smith,Samuel G. Smith,Lesley M McGregor,Gemma Vart,Rosemary Howe,Julia Snowball,Graham Handley,Richard F A Logan,Sandra Rainbow,Steve Smith,Mary Thomas,Nicholas Counsell,Steve Morris,Stephen W. Duffy,Allan Hackshaw,Sue Moss,Wendy Atkin,Rosalind Raine +21 more
TL;DR: Of four evidence-based interventions, the enhanced reminder letter reduced the socioeconomic gradient in screening uptake, but further reducing inequalities in screenings uptake through written materials alone will be challenging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of glucocorticoid and type 1 corticotropin-releasing hormone receptors gene variants and risk for depression during pregnancy and post-partum
Lucy Darwin,Deole Nishigandh,Kandala Ngianga-Bakwin,Steve Smith,Dimitris K. Grammatopoulos,Dimitris K. Grammatopoulos +5 more
TL;DR: Association of genetic variants in the glucocorticoid receptor (GR, NR3C1) and corticotropin releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1) genes with increased risk for PND is investigated.
