A Systematic Assessment of the Association of Polysomnographic Indices with Blood Pressure: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
Dennis A. Dean,Rui Wang,David R. Jacobs,Daniel A. Duprez,Naresh M. Punjabi,Phyllis C. Zee,Steven Shea,Karol E. Watson,Susan Redline +8 more
TL;DR: The results support the use of a currently recommended apnea-hypopnea index definition as a marker of blood pressure risk and indicate that measurement of limb movements with arousals is also independently associated with diastolic blood pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between obstructive sleep apnea severity and endothelial dysfunction in an increased background of cardiovascular burden
Fadi Seif,Sanjay R. Patel,Sanjay R. Patel,Harneet K. Walia,Michael Rueschman,Deepak L. Bhatt,Deepak L. Bhatt,Daniel J. Gottlieb,Daniel J. Gottlieb,Eldrin F. Lewis,Susheel P. Patil,Naresh M. Punjabi,Denise C. Babineau,Susan Redline,Susan Redline,Reena Mehra +15 more
TL;DR: There was evidence of a graded decline in endothelial function in association with higher levels of intermittent hypoxaemia and no relation was noted with total sleep time <90 and F‐RHI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sleep Disturbances and Glucose Metabolism in Older Adults: The Cardiovascular Health Study
Linn B Strand,Linn B Strand,Linn B Strand,Mercedes R. Carnethon,Mary L. Biggs,Luc Djoussé,Robert C. Kaplan,David S. Siscovick,John A Robbins,Susan Redline,Sanjay R. Patel,Imre Janszky,Kenneth J. Mukamal +12 more
TL;DR: E Easily collected symptoms of SDB are strongly associated with insulin resistance and the incidence of type 2 diabetes in older adults, and monitoring glucose metabolism in such patients may prove useful in identifying candidates for lifestyle or pharmacological therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Sleep Apnea and Snoring With Incident Atrial Fibrillation in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis
Gen-Min Lin,Laura A. Colangelo,Donald M. Lloyd-Jones,Susan Redline,Joseph Yeboah,Susan R. Heckbert,Saman Nazarian,Alvaro Alonso,David A. Bluemke,Naresh M. Punjabi,Moyses Szklo,Kiang Liu +11 more
TL;DR: PDSA, a marker of more severe sleep apnea, was associated with higher risk of incident AF in this analysis of MESA data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of non-benzodiazepine sedative hypnotics and risk of falls in older men.
Susan J. Diem,Susan K. Ewing,Katie L. Stone,Sonia Ancoli-Israel,Susan Redline,Kristine E. Ensrud +5 more
TL;DR: Use of non-pharmacologic approaches to sleep disturbances may represent the safest approach to sleep difficulties in older adults and is associated with an increased risk of falls.
