Genome-wide association analysis identifies six new loci associated with forced vital capacity

Daan W. Loth, +159 more
TL;DR: Six new regions associated at genome-wide significance with FVC are found in or near EFEMP1, BMP6, MIR129-2–HSD17B12, PRDM11, WWOX and KCNJ2, which may inform mechanisms involved in lung development and the pathogenesis of restrictive lung disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sex influences endothelial function in sleep-disordered breathing.

TL;DR: Moderate levels of SBD are associated with impaired conduit and resistance endothelial function in women and may be more vulnerable to early SDB-related cardiovascular disease than are men, and sex-stratified univariate analyses showed that these relationships were exclusive to women.

Sex-Specific Association of Sleep Apnea Severity with Subclinical Myocardial Injury, Ventricular Hypertrophy, and Heart Failure Risk in a Community Dwelling Cohort: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities-Sleep Heart Health Study

TL;DR: Sex-specific differences exist in the relationship between OSA and CV disease and OSA, assessed in midlife, is independently associated with higher levels of concomitantly measured hs-TnT among women but not men, in whom other comorbidities associated with OSA may play a more important role.
